How is zhonyas fair?

At least this "ridiculous item" saved thousands of mages from used-to-be broken assassins like

Why are AD champions allowed to have hexdrinker, lifesteal, crits, and more damage than every AP champ?

Because AD champs get better autoattacks, better sustain itemization, crit, and the melee ones get tiamat/hydra.

The only stat where AP gets the better matchup is CDR vs attack speed. Spell vamp sucks compared to life steal, Dcap's passive sucks compared to IE's, Liandry's does a worse job countering HP stackers than BoRK, and AP just doesn't have an equivalent stat to crit.

anyone can build it. ive seen a few adc build it (mostly ones with decent ap scaling like ez/kogmaw). mages need it because they generally use all their abilities then are down for 5-10 seconds with nothing to do, cuz their auto attacks do basically nothing. zhonyas gives them some room to get their cooldowns back.

Except all the tons of times someone zhonya's and everyone stands around for a second before killing them.

I don't see how it's unfair.
