It only got nerfed when gromp-smite gave an extra thornmail effect.
If you really want tanks relevent, add a mortal-strike effect to the reflected damage so people can't sustain through it with every common adc build.

I think it's toxic too. It's way to simple of a fix for tanks. It's like "o hey I got thornmail now I can actually survive." They need a less General of a item
Ralanr1 votesActually I think tanks are severely lacking in a core rush item at the moment, but that's not why I think Thornmail is unhealthy.
I think it's unhealthy because it directly (rather than indirectly) punishes ADCs for fighting tanks correctly.
KuroCaliber1 votesI kinda liked the God level Tank item that Randuin's was going to be in the Tank update, before they scrapped the idea. I mean, ADC's have infinity edge, mages have deathcap, assassins have youmuu's/duskblade. So far, the only god level tank item is stoneplate, and even that only gives a powerspike for 4 seconds, as opposed to constant power in a fight.

The only reason I'd bother buying it is to ensure the enemy ADC couldn't outright lifesteal through my damage.

Oleandervine2 votesThornmail, when it was good, was picked up by ADCs who basically got free damage on enemy ADCs by being shot at. When Thornmail is good, it becomes incredibly unhealthy for the game. It should honestly be retired at this point.
