Is Season 6 really the worst season?

I was born into this darkness so it's all I know. But I obviously see the hate towards this season and can't fully understand it because I didn't play previous seasons. Are the problems with solo q the main reason it's been a bad season or did other seasons have something this one didn't ? I've seen people mention how previous seasons were more based on your strategy to win games and now it's more simple. That at least is easy for me to believe

I played Dominion for the most part so I would say yes, Season 6 is the worst season.

Hah. I haven't really been playing any other multiplayer games. Been messing around with modding Darkest Dungeon and boring RL stuff.

Aw. I don't really blame you. Riot certainly has a way of sucking away your soul and competitive drive. Carry on, excellent community member!

I've only technically played since Season 5, despite starting in August 2014. I have to say, although Season 5's meta stagnated about halfway through (Jinx and Vayne were the only ADCs ever played, Thresh was the only support ever played, for example), the game had a different feel to it that I can't quite put to words. Games felt as if they didn't snowball hard, but at the same time, you felt rewarded if you performed well early on in a game.

To be completely honest, the main reason I dislike this season is the fact that personal skill feels so invaluable versus working together as a team, but at the same time, it's as if this season people are just... worse. I don't mean that as an insult, it just feels like everyone has become less talented and either spams a champion due to its recently discovered power o because that's the only champion they use. I wouldn't even disclude myself from this, I main Karma and use her almost solely, but the season just feels like a downgrade and I'm not at all sure how it can be solved to be honest.

As a Jinx main, I can confirm that games snowballed VERY hard during that Jinx/Vayne time period. That was in fact the whole point of playing them. They're champions that snowball. Games are now SHORTER than season 5, but they are no more snowbally. The majority of games back then went until 40 minutes, but they were still decided in the early game. Teams would get an early lead, and hug towers, farm, and grow advantage until they're so far ahead they could stomp. That was what a lot of season 5 was: a lot of wasting time and sitting around.

Sassmast3r1 votes

You said it way better than I could! Games were definitely much longer back then, I suppose I just never felt that they were snowbally perhaps since they lasted so much longer. You are right though.

Keystones, damage creep, Dynamic Queue, needless reworks, "tank" builds, non-existing ward game, lack of care for balancing the game.

Yes, it is the worst Season since I started playing in pre-Season 3.

Skias6 votes

I played since beta. This is the worst season because of:

Artificial snowball mechanics force games to an end, new DRG and minion push.

Bruiser everything. Ekko, alkali, yasuo ad nauseum.

Marksman update overtuned their items, made pure tanks worthless.

Buffing champs that don't need buffs, nerfs tickle obviously abusive champs. Two weeks to nerf a bugged and obviously broken champ like yasuo without disabling him.

Broke their own rules they made when they deleted Atmas Impaler. A tank item cannot offer scaling offense because it is game warping. It makes tank items attractive to people that shouldn't have it.

I get the feeling like there is a core vision that is misguided and ruining the game sometimes.

That's my perception. DynamicQ ruined rank integrity this season as well.

I've played league since January 2012. Every season has its ups and downs. I have played more ranked this season then any other because old champ select was a fucking nightmare. I only enjoyed playing top or mid and those were the most contested roles. If you were 4th/5th you are support or jungle most of the time. Why even play the game if you can't play what you enjoy? So I didn't.

Now season 6 has such a huge variety of bullshit champions that 3/4 games have a champ that just ruins any fun there is to be had regardless of your lane. I don't even care that mid jungle and top are queued together and camp the shit out of me. I care that it is a Gnar, Ekko or Irelia top lane and they have very little outplay potential.

tl;dr league is shit every season I don't know why its so popular.

Yes.

Masteries/damage creep + dragons have made the game incredibly snowbally.

LCS is staler than ever because Riot fails to realise the snowballier they make the game, the less risks LCS players are willing to take.

Towerdiving is so incredibly easy even with miniscule leads. Because yay.

Tanks? What are tanks? Ekko Fizz Yasuo ?

Lane duelling has been simplified to whoever gets their thunderlord proc off first or without their opponents able to responds pretty much wins. Rinse repeat, all in at lvl 3. GGWP, you got the better pick so you win. Much skillz. Because who gives a fuck about managing waves, cooldowns and resources when you can just easely delete someone with some kind of cheesy play and retarded ammounts of out of game damage amplification.

Gameplay is spazzy as fuck compared to the more drawn out, calculated duels/skirmishes/teamfights of previous seasons.

Whatever. They own it, they are fully allowed to break it.

The main problem is the fact riot made leveling to 30 way faster, which caused a flood of inexperienced players into draft and ranked (new players with <60 games are showing up in my high silver/low gold ranked games, and feeding with godlike power).

Most of the DQ nonsense is just low salt factories parroting each other, the only real problems are with very high rank matchmaking and a few issues that got fixed within a month of DQ going live.

Also persistent balance issues related to the addition of keystone masteries, which are overall a good addition.

"low salt factories" lmao +1 I'd quote it but that takes an hour on my phone

Yeah early sustain is way out of whack because of corrupting potion.

agbudar3 votes

not really. previous seasons were worse this comunity has a bad memory which can be expected from addicts

(plz dont say you are not if you play this game you are an addict period)

you should have seen what it was like to be a support back when we didnt have item 2303 item 2302 item 2301 item 3092 item 3069 item 3401 .

as a support you were stuck spending every FUKKIN piece of gold on wards. it was a FUKIN nightmare, anyone who says otherwise basically had an aneurysm and lost too many braincells from all the abuse supports suffered back then, it was traumatizing to say the least.

and the worst part was muting was an anoying proccess since you had to type /mute summonerX. and you can bet your life that all the abusive adc had horrible names like XXPOOSSYSL@yerSHIT then you had to listen for 5 minutes when you acidentally spelled it wrong or it was connected to mute or w/e and they were SOOOOO offended that you wanted to mute them and ofc you were the reason you were losing.

lets talk about champ select before season 6 shall we?

now i get it dynamic que doesnt work, HOWEVER the champ select were you decide what you play makes SUCH a BIG FUKKIN DIFFERENCE. the joke MID OR FEED. existed for a good reason.

lets talk about jungling. at some point we basically had no jungling items and were basically just glorified supports that did nothing but gank had no farm if they were behind and would start cloth and 5X pots. cuz you would die to your first clear if you didnt.

that being said champion balance is still the same as it was back then Riot has a couple of favor children

LeeSin was a toptier jungler for 4 seasons straight. you wana know what the complaint was? to many escapes.

let me present to you Ekko Yasuo Kalista whose very existence is basically an insult to champion balance in this game.

so yknow it aint so bad. tbh the flaming and trolling is A LOT LESS. and quite frankly when you lose a game (and this is the part that sucks and hurts people the most) is that you DID get your main YOU DID get your favored lane. and lost so now everyone complains about the matching system.

which btw has ALWAYS been fukkin awful. i remember going on a massive winning streak in season 4 and because my MMR got so high i was stuck playing with golds and plats. I distinctly remember one game were EVERYONE was plat and my team lost their fukkin shit because i was support yorick btw we won.

i was pissed beyond fukkin belief for multiple reasons but yknow fuk riots ranking system. it aint legit. ive seen silvers play better then plats and im wondering how they are still in silver (riots ranking system fukkin them in the arse thats what) ive seen golds perform so fukkin bad im still wondering how the fuk they got in gold.

tl;dr done ranting

This is by far the worst season. Less diversity, both in terms of champion viability and strategic viability, and in terms of competitive integrity. The game has never been less enjoyable while simultaneously less rewarding of hard work and effort.

disregardable2 votes

Probably not, no. Season 1 was probably the worst season, objectively. The game just gets boring after you play it for a long time, and, rather than accept that they're getting bored of a game they've played forever, people like to shift the blame onto the changes that are being made.

UberAffe2 votes

Its called old person syndrome. When you grow up you start despising all these newfangled technologies just because they weren't around when you were young.

IE: People are salty because they didn't have this when they were starting out and they don't want to switch and they are annoyed that new people are doing better than them even though they are new.

JackMcSnipeyz2 votes

Nope, every season you'll come to the boards and get your daily supply of salt. People are crying about the stupidest things, from reworks of outdated forgotten champs (taric, yorick) to bigger things like dynamic que (which is a matter of opinion, so it is justified). This year we got good updates, the marksman update was fantastic IMO, and after couple of nerfs it was in line. Mage update added cool new items and gave traditional mages more screen time.

All in all, this season is far from best, but faaar from worst, people will say season 7 is the worst next year, just wait.

Blanchimont2 votes

I think Season 6 is the worst since I started playing at the end of Season 2. I never played Season 1 so I cannot speak for it. There were some bad times like when they upped the jungle difficulty, but I would say even at that time, it still was not as bad as it is now.

For Season 6, the things I dislike are

  1. RNG from the elemental drakes.
  2. Snowball from extended death timers and first turret gold.

It depends entirely on what you care about

Teridax681 votes

Every season is the worst season, at least if you judge purely on Boards threads and comments. Early last year, Season 5 was the worst because of the new jungle, before that Season 4 was the worst because some mages got too good with the support item changes, plus Yasuo and Azir got released, before then Season 3 was the worst because Heart of Gold got removed, and so on. It's basically very easy to get stuck on the game's current issues this season, or just this patch, and complain that it's in its worst state yet, despite these problems being far less dire compared to those of the previous season: for example, Season 5's jungle was murder on all but a few champions, Season 4 had a tremendously snowbally laning phase, which meant only early game champions could ever be viable, Season 3 had supports build nothing but Vision Wards and a gold item, Season 2, despite being strangely popular among a few players here, featured balancing problems so hilariously terrible that they are still remembered to this day (Metagolem, anyone?), and Season 1 featured some of the game's most egregious mistakes in champion design, including release Irelia, Vladimir, Xin Zhao and Yorick, mistakes that took until very recently to begin fixing properly. For sure, Season 6 has its problems, but when put into perspective with League's entire run so far, it's probably the best the game's ever been, and that's not at all a bad thing.

Call of duty effect right their. Every original CoD4 player feels that it was the best game. Same goes for r those playing during later titles. They feel their first was always the best.

Riot universally widened the MMR gap allowed via matchmaking with the introduction of Dynamic Queue in order to reduce queue times.

This leads to extremely lopsided games, where one side is usually on a massive snowball.

It effectively ruined the integrity of the game, ranked and all. **You can even feel it in normals, where it was often lopsided due to ranked and normal MMR being separate anyway. **

I've been through it all, with the exception of Beta.

Despite all of the imbalance in previous seasons, you still got a relatively consistent experience because MMR ranges in matches were so tight.. Not this season, though.

And on top of that, balance-wise, this season is horrendous too, mostly due to keystones and the new mastery trees being massively lopsided towards damage.

At the end of the day, Dynamic Queue is an annoyance. Riot widening the MMR gap to reduce queue times is what actually ruined this season.

Yeah, I'd like things like Solo Queue and balanced champions/items again, but its the matchmaking that's making it a horrible experience this season.

Personally. Season (Preseason) 7 so far is the worst season
