First you nerf tank supports' late game...

...Now you're nerfing mage supports' late game? And alot of them aren't even getting compensation buffs for the nerf to Spellthief's mana regen. So you're nerfing their early game too. Do you want support to be the useless-after-6 role?

I mean, it's fine if you want to make supports the earlygame-only powerhouses to match the ADC's lategame-only powerhouse status. But I thought Riot didn't like to force the meta. This looks an awful lot like forcing the meta.

No. They want tank supports to be balanced. They want enchanters to be balanced. They don't want mages in the bottom lane, except as offmeta "fun" choices.

Currently mages are the only viable supports, not because enchanters and tanks aren't well balanced, but because mages are overpowered in the support role currently and need to be toned down.

This is just simply not true. The most popular support choices in pro games are TahmKench Janna Alistar Braum

Furthermore, on op.gg - check the support winrates It definitely isn't mage supports who are dominating. It's everyone else. Check your facts dude. Janna Soraka Rakan Alistar

You realize that pro play and soloqueue are two different environments?

Absolutely, but it isn't true in solo queue either. Look At Support Winrates, Tierlists, Pickrates...

It's obvious the data does not support his original post in any way.

Perhaps my terminology is a bit rusty. I thought: Mage=Champion whose abilities are their main strength, as opposed to autos or tankiness. Enchanter=Champion whose buff spells are a significant portion of their strength, as opposed to damage spells or tankiness. Most Enchanters are Mages no? Support Enchanters by Winrate: Janna Zilean Nami Morgana ! Taric Lulu Karma Lux Out of the eight of them, ONE is a Tank Enchanter. And that's if you even consider a shield a buff. If you don't, then the list shrinks to Janna (her shield comes with an AD buff) Zilean Nami ! Lulu Karma, ALL of whom are mages. Any change Riot pushes that hits Mages also hits Enchanters. That's because Enchanters are Mages. The exclamation point separates the >50% and <50% WR portions of the lists. As you can see, neither class of supports has more than 50% of it over a 50% WR.

Perhaps my terminology is a bit rusty. I thought: ...

The reason I say Tank supports have been nerfed while mage supports are about to get nerfed is that patch 8.7 Nerfed the Relic shield line gold generation, among other things, which is a huge nerf to the lategame power of every tank support. Now they're nerfing Spellthief's edge, which is a hit to all mage supports (except Coin Jannas), including enchanters. Mages are getting their power adjusted so that mana is more plentiful pre-6 and scarcer post-6, which means their time to shine just went from "mostly after they get first item" to "mostly level 6 and below". Enchanters' mana is not being adjusted (yet), so their only change is 25% fewer buffs they can apply before first back. So basically: Tank supports: Lategame nerfed. Mage supports: Earlygame buffed, lategame nerfed. Enchanter supports: Earlygame 25% nerfed, in turn nerfing lategame.
