How the fuck do you lane against darius?

WrÆth··6 votes·1,556 views

Like seriously, laning against him is annoying as FUCK. Even in ranged matdchups, you can try and kite him, but then he just pulls you in and you get shit on. Hes tanky as fuck and yet still deals massive amounts of damage. So please tell me, how do you lane against him.

Do you just make one of these every time you play a game?

Where you here to answer my question or just write some slight sarcastic/passive aggressive comment?

item 3301 and enjoy your wait for jungler under the turret until you can afford item 3096 then use yoursummoner 12 to get back to lane quickly. you'll earn as much xp as him under your turret and his passive prevents him from last hitting minions because if he hits you it pretty much causes him to be auto targeted for about 5 seconds.

Critmaster Garen1 votes

try to force him to q your minion wave to trade with you. he pushes lane, and has to overextend which gives your jungler a chance to gank.

hes rather susceptible to ganks, since he doesnt have any sort of escape.

Astôlfo1 votes

Avoid his Q and E. They're very easy to dodge as long as you learn its ranges, and for the Q, just get out during the cast animation time. Don't trade with him in early especially if you're melee or otherwise short range. His bleed passive will most likely let him win any trade in early. Kite him, focus on CSing, call for ganks if you and your jungler actually know how to (otherwise just don't), kite him in late/get someone who can kite him with long range in late, get Grievous Wounds, CC him, so on and so forth.

I think i know why i fucked up now. I thought i could get in free damage with my kalista AAs, but quickly learned not to do that considering if he lands his hook and slow im fucked

Astôlfo1 votes

Just about any ranged champion that can actually work in toplane can generally ruin a Darius' day.

Quinn is a good example. Kennen/Kayle/Teemo/Quinn/Swain/etc all work as well.

theonlyaustin1 votes

plus kalista looses so much AS away from her oathsworn

48983507DEL11 votes

Depends on who you're playing. Tell me your champ and I'll give you the how-to.

WrÆth1 votes

I know it sounds ridiculous but i played kalista toplane since i thought i could kite him, but i just kept getting hooked, slowed, and coudnt get the distance needed to kite

Astôlfo3 votes

To be fair, Kalista is garbage in general, let alone toplane, when 1 1/2 of her abilities require a partner.

WrÆth1 votes

Seems like its a free win though since kalista is so safe against melee?

Astôlfo1 votes

Kalista has been nerfed incredibly hard in the past due to how dominating she used to be due to her passive which let her kite everywhere and everyone, as well as her objective control with Rend.

To be blunt, if you were a bit better at Kalista (or perhaps if the Darius player was worse, IDK how good he was), it might've gone a bit better.

Play more meta top laners. Against Darius I would recommend Trundle. Simple to play and fits well into a lot of team compositions. He also has no direct counters top lane, since he basically counters them all.

ProfDrDeath2 votes

I wouldn't recommend Trundle. Nor anyone else who relies on extended trades to win the lane.

Ranged champions (Quinn Jayce Swain Kayle Kennen ) or ones that win short trades and can then disengage (Gangplank Riven (surprisingly)) are the way to go against Darius. Or you can use a higher damage/higher sustain Juggernaut (Illaoi )

Kennen

You learn to kite better. If you get hooked, you got way too close.

Kalista's really hard to play well. I'd stick with some of the safer recommendations here, like Teemo or Quinn. I've been known to toplane Cait on occasion, though I can't really comment on how that would go vs Darius. I like to think it could work given her range.

as soon as he flash hooks you you're dead. caitlyn would need movement speed runes to have a chance. her net animation is too slow for using it to dodge him. otherwise it's a blow out.

Like all ranged top laners, she'll prob give darius a hard time but is EXTREMELY susceptible to ganking since ranged top laners naturally push against darius and allow him to freeze under his turret.

Another reason shes susceptible to ganking is because of zero durability (common ranged off meta top laner issue) and very minimal cc.

Logically, ADCs should be top lane gods, but no one does it because the variable that is a jungler ruins most ADC top lane dreams.

Well if daruis can pull an adc in then you are fucked. He can crap on the adc's health really quickly. I suggest tankier champions or ranged champions with good mobility, aka Teemo, kennan, gnar. and jayce. Garen and wukong can be good, but Garen can only do good if he outtanks daruis.

Teemo's actually trash vs. Darius because his auto attack range is the exact same as Darius's pull range, which makes kiting extremely difficult pre-Frozen Mallet. Every time you go in for auto harass, Darius can pull you in during Teemo's auto animation, then proceed to dunk him. And for AP Teemo, it's basically gg after Darius gets Specter's Cowl.

You could play swain. I went tank swain top lane and was able to hold out.

Catastrop1 votes

Chogath Gnar Karma Kayle Kennen Lissandra Quinn Rumble Ryze Swain I'm sure at least one of them fits your playstyle.

Immortal spax1 votes

Half of those champs gets shitted by darius, and also you missed his only melee counter, Jax.

Catastrop1 votes

With the exception of Rumble, Gnar and now that it's come to my attention, Cho, the rest are are fairly good picks against him. The only one that's just a bit shakey is Ryze because he's not that easy an champion to play. I didn't list Jax because I wasn't listing all his counters, I just went for the ones I knew and personally played and a few ones I thought would also do well(the aforementioned trio).

ProfDrDeath1 votes

Cho is one of Darius' best match-ups. Gnar is actually a better match-up for Darius than for Gnar (+1.92% WR for Darius vs +0.32% winrate for Gnar). Rumble is in Darius' favor.

Catastrop1 votes

Oh wow, I honestly thought Cho and Rumble would be good against him. I expected Cho could at least go toe to toe by virtue of CC chaining him and just sustain in general. Rumble on the other hand I figured could just kite him to death with E. Really surprised by this. I only listed Gnar because well, he's Gnar, he can do well against almost anyone if played well.

Only Play Darius1 votes

He is extremely easy to stay away from as he is short range and no mobility. If you are a champ with any sort of mobility or range you can stay away from him and focus on farming. When trading with him, commit and stay in handle range, and immediately disengage once he has 4 stacks on you and wait until the bleeding stops before you get in his range again.

And picking Kalista top is a terrible decision regardless of the matchup.

Immortal spax1 votes

Play Jax, if you type on youtube Jax vs Darius gameplay you will see some high elo player video.

Gnar

RikoZerame

Not a single person mentioning Lulu? One of the best kite champions in the game, three forms of CC (one of which outranges Darius's pull by almost double, and can be extended even farther with minions), two ways to avoid getting dunked, and excellent teamfighting ability. She might have some trouble with mana early, but playing remotely safe is going to take care of that.
