Something to make Zyra more interesting. [Buff]

As it stands, while Zyra does have a very well balanced kit, she lacks a bit thematically, and her passive is a bit boring. Inspired by the new champion video, I thought of a way to add a bit of flair to our little flower without adding too much.

  • Passive: Rise of the Thorns
  • When Zyra kills or assists in killing an enemy champion, or dies herself, a seed is planted inside of them. For 2 seconds, a giant plant is born from the corpse. Once the plant has bloomed, Zyra fires a piercing thorn in a straight line from the plant, dealing 100-400 true damage to all enemies hit.

i.e. Zyra's passive spawns on dead enemy champs as well as herself.

Not sure how she'd fire it though. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Certainly a good idea,but maybe some other kind of plant would be better? Idk really,but this is so far one of the better suggestions on the Boards. :)

Here's my idea of a buff that could work with yours:

Planting a seed on dead enemy champion will make a canivorous plant that heals her for 10% max health of enemy champion who died (2% per second)

I'd say give the plants base HP again and buff the base damages of q while decreasing the hitbox range

I think the passive was put in to give Zyra something more useful when she is behind without affecting her ahead case, which has the potential to be very strong. If she were to grow in popularity then the rest of her kit may be nerfed quite hard to keep this feeling satisfying, which probably wouldn't feel right.

Changing the passive should probably focus on her "behind" case. How can Zyra, who is squishy and immobile, contribute if she gets jumped on. That is the problem that needs to be solved by the passive.

EDIT: I just checked champion.gg - Zyra doesn't look to be in need of a buff from a purely statistical point of view. The new FQC and Liandry's buffs (as well as synergy with TLD) seem to be doing wonders for her. Perhaps wait until next patch to reassess?

This would break Zyra, just straight up. You're basically making Zyra a ranged Katarina in terms of teamfight snowballing, once she gets off one kill she grows a plant, which she can use to get another kill and grow another plant ect. It would take longer than Kat, but you'd be able to do it from a theoretically infinite range once you got the first kill.

I think what Zyra really needs is just a passive rework to help her deal with being one of the least mobile champs in the game. My Idea would be something like

Zyra's plants and auto attacks apply stacks of Ivy to her targets up to a limit of 5. When Zyra hits a target with Ivy stacks she gains 3/4/5 (level 1/7/13) movement speed for 2 seconds and deals 5+(0.05% AP) damage per stack. Zyra can stack the speed boosts but only the highest speed boost will be active at any time.

This change would encourage Zyra to make better use of her plants in fights since there's now more damage and utility tied to their autos. She might need to lose a bit of damage elsewhere on her kit (maybe something like 0.05 off of Q or Ult) but I feel like a passive like this would help Zyra to work in the current super-mobile state of the game.
