Hybrid Champs could use a core multiplicative item for the same reason Assassins need one

Because without one, they require kits that are hilariously over-tuned for what they do to actually function.

For the sake of argument, we'll be including Jax Kayle KogMaw and Evelynn as our main focus. There are other champions that do well with both AD and AP, but the core damage of their kits is largely tilted to one side or the other of the equation (Akali, Xin, ect).

Now, I want to start by saying that we don't want to just add another ball of stats item (lookin' at you, item 3124). Instead, we need an item that multiplies the effectiveness of both AD and AP without being attractive as a one-off item to just grab a bunch of extra scaling on one side or the other.

To that end...

The Pallid Mask Builds out of item 3134 item 1043 item 3136 Grants: 40 AD 40 AP 40 IAS 200 HP 15 Hybrid penetration, and- Unique Passive: Your basic attacks deal 20 physical (AP ratio) and 20 magic (bonus AD ratio) bonus damage OnHit.

This thing would be expensive, obviously. In the 4k range. In terms of raw stats gained, a fully stacked Rageblade would beat the pants off it. However the focus would be on that passive, not the raw stats. The ratios would need to be reasonably high, force multipliers more or less on par with Infinity Edge and Deathcap. Nearly all hybrid champions have a thing for auto-attacking a lot, so the OnHit damage is certainly a stat they would be able to appreciate. And by giving them a core multiplicative item to be built around, it would be a lot easier to balance them.

A core item like this would make it clear which hybrid champions still need help and which ones are flagrantly over-tuned. Because the physical damage scales with AP and vice-versa it prevents the item from being attractive on champions who are only interesting in the AD or AP side of the item.

Thoughts?

Akali is SO HOT2 votes

Akali and Eve are not allowed to be strong and adding in hybrid items would make it so they could potentially be strong which is a no no for Riot.

Damn, you're right.

Add this to the item:

UNIQUE Passive: Buying this item on Eve or Akali reduces their maximum HP to ten in all currently active games of League of Legends.

10 hp? That's being too generous imo. Make the nexus automatically explode tbh

I like the idea but maybe not attack speed there are already so many options but a dual magic/ armor pen item would be fantastic. They killed my hybrid builds with the nerf on sheen (no AP). The majority of champs that got it are AP or hybrid anyway. Corki Gragas Ezreal Gangplank TwistedFate Jax Nasus Ziggs Diana

Removing the attack speed would put the price of the item too low.

It would also make the OnHit damage less attractive on champions who aren't Jax or Kog. As it stands, there are very few attack speed choices that lack crit while also not being bad (no love for item 3091).

idk about that item in particular, but i can completely agree that it would be great to have an item that gives the desired effects to - and only to - hybrid champions. the item example you gave would be hella good on XinZhao tho, despite him being specifically omitted from the brief list of champions you gave.

The lower raw stats, magic pen, and inverted damage type scaling would all be undesirable on Xin. He could build it, sure. With the upcoming changes to Xin, I suspect Riot is trying to encourage him to build more AD and less AP. But this suggested item would have an impact on him, certainly.

I agree with this topic so much. I love hybrid championships and I feel they need an item like this. It would help with balancing so much. It's just so fun being able to build a character that inflicts both magic and physical damage equally, nearly.

Thanks for the support!

There still wouldn't be a percentile penetration item, but I feel like that's a reasonable weakness for hybrid champions to have. If they need hybrid %Pen to function, then they should be getting it from their kit like Kayle or Kog.

Having a really great item like the Pallid Mask would be doing basically the same thing the new Darkblade item (or whatever it's called) does. It gives Riot a pivot to balance a class of champions around instead of them needing to make do with a hodge-podge of items that may or may not be that great on them.

Hybrid champs do have a couple items (item 3124 item 3146 literally a couple) but both of them are just balls of stats for the most part. Neither of them serves as a core multiplicative item that any offensive class needs to be functional.

Guinsoo's gives a fat attack speed buff along with AD and AP ratios on all your autos. Those are multipliers right there.

The only multiplicative aspect on Rageblade is the OnHit effect, which requires charging and has pitiful ratios. It gets purchased because it is a giant ball of stats. The OnHit is just a nice side effect on pretty much everyone aside from Kog.

This proposed item would have the ratios on its OnHit as the main feature. Infinity Edge amps the power of a critical strike by about 25%. Deathcap has a similar amplifying effect on AP ratios. The Pallid Mask would be shooting for that sort of power range.

attack speed is a multiplier for autos and how much they benefit from AD, and most hybrid champs depend heavily on their autos due to some powerful on-hit that incorporates an AP ratio.
