Can We Please Give Ahri A Buff Of Some Kind?

Tentacle Advisor·12/28/2017, 9:41:17 PM·8 votes·758 views

After reading a couple of Ahri posts, I was reminded that I actually enjoyed playing the champion, last season. So I went into a game with her, just a short while ago. And with that game, I realized something. It is VERY hard to farm as Ahri. Now, it could just be me being a cs'ing trashcan, but hear me out on this one, before jumping to that conclusion.

Like, every mid lane champion has spells to clear minions with, but their auto attacks help as well. However, Ahri's auto attacks barely seem to even "tickle" the minions' HP bars. It seems like I have to wait for them to be under 5 HP just for my AA to kill them. Knowing that, I've been using her spells to farm, but by doing so, I've been leaving myself open to harass and jungle pressure (since my spells are down) AND if the minions survive my spells (which they often do), I'm at a loss anyway, becuase Ahri's AA's don't do anything.

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? What I'm missing? And if it's just me with this problem? If it is just me, can someone please tell me how they manage to farm well as Ahri? I really like this champion, but I've benched her all this time, due to this problem and I can't seem to get it right.

No, you're thinking of Leblanc. Ahri doesn't have this problem nearly as badly as she does.

I've had some small issues farming with Ahri, but nothing quite this difficult. Personally I would recommend you go play a practice mode game with her and just practice CS-ing with her for a while. Once you familiarize yourself with her attack animations, speed and damage, you will have an easier time farming with her in lane.

Also I only ever use Ahri's Q to waveclear. And even then I only do it if the wave is specifically pushing towards my tower and I need to clear it or if I need to push a wave under the enemy tower before I recall or roam. The rest of the time just use auto-attacks consistently to trim the minion waves and keep them even. Her other abilties (especially her charm) are better off being saved for trades or for dealing with ganks.

One thing that can help is to pay attention to your minions and the enemy minions at the same time. Try to clear evenly with the other side so that the wave stays frozen, or even clear more slowly than the other side, so that it pushes towards you. This will make it safer for you to be in lane since you won't constantly be pushed forward and in danger of ganks when your Q is on cooldown.

Another thing is to watch the entire wave (wide-view like, rather than focus on the minion you plan to last hit next. By watching everything at once you get a better sense of the pace at which they are dying and you will have better timing for last-hitting them.

I'll definitely do the Practice Mode thing. I'm sure that would help me a lot. Plus, I'll be able to practice her Flash+E combo there, so it'll be a win-win, in that regard.

This will take some getting used to, as I suck at minion-management. Reason why I don't play top lane.

On a side note, though, what do you recommend building on her? I generally rush Morello into Luden's, but I feel like I should be doing something different.

Although a buff on her W would be loved, Ahri is a rather well balanced champ right now.

Not true. I forget when in the game, but definitely early on her Q can clear the mage minions. If you poke down the front ones with your auto attack your Q can clear the whole wave. If you time it right you'll even poke the enemy laner.

As a champ focused on ability power your auto attack shouldn't have that much strength to it. I find early on I miss the last hit on enemy minions because I think it will do the mid game damage (what I'm accustom to) rather than the very little early game damage. Just gotta keep practicing last hitting.

Let your minions poke them down, use your AA when they're high to mid health, let your minions get them all the way down and then AA that last bit of health. If they're low and you try to AA twice, once to get them lower and once to finish it, your attack speed won't always be high enough to get that second AA in before one of your minions get the kill.

If you feel like using your abilities to hit minions leaves you open perhaps you need to evaluate why. If you're anywhere past the river, especially without wards, you are open. Buy a control ward on your first back and place it on the side that has the thicker wall. The one with the thin wall on your side of the river is good for regular wards because you can place them over the wall. This way you don't have to face check just to put a ward down. Anytime that control ward gets taken down buy a new one the next time you're at the shop. It makes such a difference.

Your Q gives you movement speed, so once you hit that wave of minions, run back towards your turret. There's not much you can do pre-level 6 other than poke them down, which is what your Q is for. If you find yourself needing health use your W to get your passive stacks up, and again go for the full wave. I usually get my E second, Q third, and W fourth. E second because that charm is great for interrupting anyone who gets too close.

I also like to get the refillable potion (150g) on my first back (I'll sell any unused health potions for it even)** because it refills** every time you visit the shop. That's that much more gold you can put towards other items rather than continuously buying health potions for their 50 gold. I also get Lost chapter ASAP (even before the control ward and potions, but don't forget about them) because that extra mana really makes a difference for your lane sustain.

After all that the only thing you really need to do is learn when to engage, and when/how to play it safe with Ahri. Take a look at some of her guides, and watch some streamers play through. She's a rather squishy champ. I'm a M7 main with her, but she was my first AP champ after being only ADC. It's a very different play style and takes some getting used to.

Ahri does need a few stat buffs, She does feel really weak this preseaason, last hitting with her is a bit hard indeed as she does have lower AD than other mid laners, But her stats are garbage currently comparing to a few other midlaners currently [sg-ahri-2]

Ahri's farming is fine. Starting at lvl 3, your lvl 2 Q twoshots caster minions, giving you a lot of safe wave control and allowing you to quickly clear the wave before the 4:00 mark when you should back before the cannon wave gets there. This way, because of the extra minion, your lane opponent can't shove it in before you get back, and you lose max 1 or 2 melee minions before you get back to lane. Now they either have to stay in lane against you after you've come back with more stats and replenished hp and mana, or they have to back as well and you can shove to tower, causing them to lose an entire wave of exp, giving you an edge.

What Ahri needs is actual damage, as her power budget is too unnecessarily spent in safety.
