Please explain Strenth of the Ages to me

My understanding is that once it's maxed out it gives you like 300 permanent health and then I think some health regen in the jungle or something. When playing someone like kindred, I felt like fervor made more sense and didn't understand why you'd take strength of the ages. And not only on squishy champs, it confuses me to take it on someone like rammus. You will end up buying a lot of health probably at some point. Couldn't you benefit more from a different mastery? Thanks for your help I just want to understand its importance more

Strength of Ages provides additional health to a champion and is especially strong in the mid-game.

Many damage-oriented champions value it for the additional bulk it provides while they rush offensive items (since it helps prevent them from being blown-up).

Durability-oriented champions value it since it makes them near unkillable in the mid-game (Cinderhulk + Strength of Ages is a lot of health to get through) and lets them rush resistances (i.e. Zz'rot Portal, Frozen Heart) earlier.

Also, few of the keystones really help in the jungle. The only real options for most champions are Thunderlord's Decree (additional burst during ganks), Fervor of Battle (for sustained damage) and Strength of the Ages (additional health).

it gives you 300 max health when fully stacked. things that gave you max health before now heal you for something like 3~6% of your max health.

Edit; the reason you take it on tanks is because it gives you a LOT of sustain mid game. and i mean a metric fragton of sustain. in addition, tank junglers or just tanks in general without innate heals are popular.

Any champion that uses cinderhulk wants more HP because they get that bonus HP from how much they build. It's different on someone who is squishy but some people prefer to be able to stay alive longer and more HP helps with surviving burst damage from an assassin for example

It gives you almost a free giants belt just from farming the jungle, Giants belt is 380 health for 1k gold. Stacked SOTA is 800 gold in health.
