What was the goal of Minion Collision?

Besides unintentionally cock-blocking you to death.

honestly the last change they made to it in season 5 i think made the game feel so much worse, it used to be a lot better.

minions feels like ever shifting terrain

Pika Fox14 votes

Its mostly because a subsection of champs would just be able to stand inside minions all day and freely zone the enemy forever. Minion block makes that too risky, so you end up staying to one of the sides of the minion wave leaving room to either CS or them being too far forward and gankable.

TequilaZombie12 votes

It is also to avoid making single target skill shots that stop on minions useable. If champions were able to freely sit in the middle of a minion wave, skills like Ezreal Q would be almost useless in the laning phase.

Bob the Toastr4 votes

You mean there would finally be a meta where Ezreal is unviable? The horror.

And this is only for laners or champions that Riot wants to be laners. It would be a meta where those champions either receive some big compensation buffs or become really really bad.

Bârd6 votes

Leblanc is just the chain.

Q is targeted. W is AOE.

Zoe is just the bubble.

Q is AOE (a small AOE, but an AOE nonetheless), W is autotarget, passive is targeted.

Otherwise you're good.

TequilaZombie2 votes

Thanks! Edited it out! I don't play two thirds of those champions and haven't played much League lately, it was pretty hard to remember it all!

Imagine Graves's auto attacks. Yikes.

No minion collision = Fizz has no passive.

Pika Fox1 votes

It would be fair to assume fizz would have a different passive for sake of argument. Fizz's passive isnt really a reasonable part of the discussion, especilly since he didnt always exist.

still gets damage reduction from autos :V

ProtoMMXVII1 votes

It's a pretty terrible passive to be honest.

TwitchInMyPants11 votes

TBH I think minion collision on enemy minions makes sense since they're meant to be a wall between the both of you and you're capable of removing them

I don't think it's necessary at all on allied minions

Disulfiram2 votes

They probably added it to allied minions too so that you can't just hide inside of a wave without melee enemies being able to touch you (not even the ones with mobility: if they dash to you, then you can just move out of the wave and leave them trapped there).

AirKingNeo8 votes

So a giant Hec model can't stand on top of the wave, preventing you from last hitting.

Being blocked from moving is a lot different than your skillshots getting blocked. The former was done unintentionally 90% of the time, while the latter on the other hand was unintentionally done if you're blind.

remakoro7 votes

You just dont get it, right?

If skillshots can be blocked by minions but u cannot then you can just stand right into minions and be completely safe from any skillshot that affects only its first target. Meaning Any hooks plus half of CC skillshots.

BeatzBoyFTW10 votes

I can do that without getting myself cock-blocked, which is completely irrelevant to what my thread is talking about.

remakoro3 votes

"Minion Collision" I was pretty sure you are talking about interactions between minions and players. Mainly those movement based. Cuz thats exactly what it sounds like. And you asked about "goal" of it. And i explained one of the reasons for its existence and got downvoted btw -_- Sigh

BeatzBoyFTW13 votes

Obviously, everyone knows I'm referring to having your movement being blocked in a group of minions. Why the fuck would I make a Bronze topic about "SkIlLsHoTs ShOuLd PaSs ThRoUgH mInIoNs".

Selegun5 votes

To be fair, it could also be considered a bronze topic to be complaining about not being able to control your character the way you want. It's a skill to work with and against a minion wave so it goes a long way to practice so it does not become as much of a burden. Or you could start taking Ghost and building Phantom Dancer on everyone if it's really that hard to work with.

BeatzBoyFTW5 votes

Minion Collision is not an actual big factor compared to Champion Balances & such, but a factor that players does not have control at occasional points. Forcing me to buy items or set a specific SS just to relieve me of that buggy interaction is utter ridiculous.

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Minion

Sorry for the wait. Could not find my old link but this one covers all the points quite nicely.

Behavior Minions walk along a lane until they find an enemy unit. When they find an enemy unit, they attack it. An enemy champion can aggro the minion if they basic attack or use a targeted ability or spell on a nearby allied champion. When they find several enemy units they choose their target using a priority system that follows this order:

  1. Enemy champions attacking an allied champion.
  2. Enemy minions attacking an allied champion.
  3. Enemy minions attacking an allied minion.
  4. Enemy turrets attacking an allied minion.
  5. Enemy champions attacking an allied minion.
  6. The closest enemy minion.
  7. The closest enemy champion. Once a minion has chosen a target, it only switches to a new target if the new target has higher priority. If they see a new target with the same priority as their current target, they keep attacking their current target. Minions reevaluate their target every few seconds. For instance, if an enemy champion attacks an allied champion and then stops attacking, minions will keep targeting the enemy champion for a short time after he stops attacking. When the target of a minion leaves its sight, the minion switches to a new target or keeps advancing if there are no targets within sight.

Just in case you dont feel like following the link

Seriously, this. There would be no reason to play outside of your minion wave because they would essentially be free meat shields.

The collision dynamics could be smoothed out but minion block itself is pretty crucial for skill expression.

Bârd6 votes

In Dota, unit collision is a very important mechanic.

Trapping enemies in summoned units, holding back your own creep waves, and stalling enemy escapes by blocking their pathing.

Riot decided to keep unit collision when creating league, but didn't make any of the above things doable.

TBH, unit collision is very rarely the problem. You will sometimes get trapped in a cage of minions, but that's not usually what happens. The actual problem is how pathing interacts with minions. If there is a wall of minions, the pathing engine will treat them as a solid wall and try to send you around them if you try to move through them (unless you are phased).

Lol. This topic again?

So you can sit inside a wave as easily to avoid certain skillshots man. Riot has already said several times.

When you watch someone who looks like they are glitching out but its actually due to minion collision.

Make it so you push minions to the side when walking?

they are the ones pushing me to the side lol

Aptest3 votes

To give positioning another layer of depth. For instance range champions are able to step closer to melee if minions create artificial distance. Or melees must care in their pathing less they will be blocked.

This layer of complexity helps alleviate the inherent tic-tac-toe-ish nature of trading in the game.

So basically to screw over melees.

So you can't stand on your minions to prevent your lane opponent from clicking on them (and vice versa), at least that was the answer given to me

there's a mechanic in the game where you can press a key to toggle between champion targets and other targets so thats not the reason.

the honest reason for minion block is so that there's an extra game mechanic that basically creates dynamic walls between you and your opponent. it also prevents champions hiding inside of another unit. after all siege minions and super minions are bigger than quite a few champs.

OniZetsu6662 votes

The ONLY reason why I hate the minion collision is when I get stuck and I cant walk or move. Its like a free stun for the enemy team. AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. Hell my most favorite time I was Rakan going against Lucian the dude was at like 20 health. So I thought okay cool just w to him and kill him if I miss throw a q and hes gone. heh I went and w'd I did miss like I thought I might but....I got stuck...then the fucker was able to quickly kill me with ease. Free stun. Didn't need his Morgana he had winnions! [darius-angry] [sg-janna] an easy kill for someone who overstayed got me killed because I got pinned by fucking MINIONS.
