Varus is probably the best example of ults that make the enemy think

All Day Tay Tay··14 votes·1,465 views

Varus ult is pretty strong if done right. if he lands it on one of the enemies carries and they are near their allies, the team needs to make a decision. Stay with the ally and protect them, but then get rooted, or leave the ally alone and separated from the group to not get rooted. either way, they have to decide what is worse for the team. I would love to make more ults that dont rely on just the caster to think, but the enemy has to think.

edit way more comments than i thought i would get

edit 2 i am not talking about the strength of the ult, or how strong varus/his ult is. i am just saying i like how after it is used, the enemy has to think about the next step

Varus is best designed champion this game has seen and because of it he's weaker than most.

Lugg2 votes

I wouldn't say best, but he is well designed. His ult has the lowest hit percentage of any ability in the game though. They need to widen the hit box on it. Especially since it's just a root with relatively low damage.

I think it's mostly due to people not realizing the little delay there is before he throws it. I agree though, i miss that thing at least twice per game and i've been maining Varus since s2.

Most of the time it doesn't have alot of impact due to how easy it is to avoid it, the delayed effect makes it feel pretty unrewarding as far as teamfight lock down goes.

I agree that the delay is too long. Especially considering the ults other ADCs have.

I think Varus's ult is a tad on the weak side because of how much power is budgeted into his Q. It's one of the most powerful basic abilities in the game and basically the entire reason why he sees high level play.

That does make sense.

Citation please.

No really, I want the source so I can see the statistics on other abilities in the game >.>

It was said in a red post about 2 months ago. Since it came straight from Rito, I am inclined to believe it.

IcyPepper1 votes

I'm not doubting you, but if that's the case then I'm guessing the Red isn't really going to share their source with us for the obvious reasons

I would argue orianna is the best designed possible lee sin when the meta does not favor him (high reward if you do well if not you fall off and lose)

Lee is a terrible design. He has one of the most overloaded kits in the game and when viable forces out entire classes from the jungle.

I have never felt like he was overloaded I rarely see him dominate games and his high skill cap keeps him from being suffocating in the way sej or vi were in their primes.

I dunno.

The guy has technically seven spells and a passive to keep track of. Unless I'm missing someone, most champions have a max of six.

Since he's an energy champion, spamming your abilities isn't as easy as a mana/resourceless hybrid like Nidalee or Elise would be.

And he has two forms of mobility, one cc, and one displacement.

I've played him. He's far from overpowered, but he feels overloaded because he has so much damn stuff in his kit.

There was an argument for this before he was buffed, now he gets way too much energy back way too quickly and it really doesn't restrict him at all.

Mana would be far more restricting just becausee it would punish him in the long term.

IcyPepper1 votes

His overall QQWWEE costs 240 energy, which shouldn't be too hard to accomplish if you get his passive in.

I meant it more like he can't get as many multiple rotations in a short time, and if he can't get those aa's (in some cases, he can't :/ ) it takes awhile for him to recharge instead of being able to swap to a resourceless form that's only gated by cooldowns. Part of why he's strong and considered to fall off late (but still remain relevant, that utility man), since junglers doing their job right only need one rotation early game for a good gank.

But in his current design, mana would be terrible on him.

I still think he's overloaded though. Just a bit. Not that he should get reworked or have his spells deleted, though. As far as I'm concerned, he sets the bar for champion kits like Renekton did for top lane.

His second cast w is not a ability lol if it was it would be the worst in the game, His second cast e is a slow with no damage and without his first q he would not be a champion. Don't really think that arguement works you could say that about like jayce but is he op? No jayce is garbage. Yeah he has a lot to his kit but he also falls off really hard and unlike most brain dead junglers actually has a skill floor and ceiling

I don't think you read carefully, despite quoting me. Here's what I said:

his high skill cap keeps him from being suffocating in the way sej or vi were in their primes.

Vi hasn't been in her prime since season 3, at best she's been an OK pick.

When Sej was in her prim her power did not force out another jungle pick. Every pick that would be viable without Sej was still viable with Sej around.

When Lee's strong you can't play late game jungles, at all. You can't play tanks, you can't play carries, you can't play late game bruisers like Shyvana and Nocturne. All you can play are champs who can come colse to matching Lee's early game, like Vi, Elise, J4 and Rek'sai.

That is what a bad champion design does. It makes other champions in some way unplayable just by its shear presence in the meta.

haha sej didn't force out other picks you are right that is why she had an 80% ban rate and was p/b pretty much every game at every elo I guess you didn't play this season? j4 and vi were also pick ban earlier this season leading to warrior nerfs and nerfs on vi's ult and jarvans flag. Did you just like forget all this or?

She had an 80% ban rate because even though she didn't technically forced out any pick, she was among the best, if not the best pick for jungle. The best picks tend to be the ones that are picked the most and this is perfectly normal. Also, she was extremely overrated. Yes she was strong but... for example, it isn't that hard for your team to just stay spread so that Sejuani can't hit your entire team with her ultimate. Unless there is a Kha'Zix on Sejuani's team, there isn't any downsides to being spread. This applied to Sejuani at time, and still applies to her now. People just don't know how to teamfight correctly, and don't understand that there are times where staying thogether with your team is not the best option.

If you actually think that then you don't understand why sej was strong, Cinderhulk synergized insanely well with her and she would build pretty much straight tank yet often outdamage a warrior jungle who built a lot of damage. Her w was absurdly high damage. If what you said was true then amumu or malphite or every other jungler with an aoe ult would get picked around the same rate but nope she just dominated the game.

aaronautumn1 votes

no. thinking is too hard.

Godaren1 votes

Feel like amumu malphite or annie would be better example. I fear those ult's I never fear a varus ult cause he is pretty weak as a champ imo.

All Day Tay Tay1 votes

but thats just one stage ults. the only thing that determines what happens is the caster. while you could argue that the enemy can dodge, then any champion with a not targeted one is this way. im saying AFTER the ult is cast, the enemy has to make decisions.

I dont like maths

Yeah because the ult lingers around for a decade.

Solidair31 votes

I like ults like this as well, which is why I like Orianna's ult a lot. The enemy has to e mindful of the Ball's position at all times or they're screwed, especially if she doesn't have a good way to wombo with someone else.

varus is pretty weak compared to other adcs since once he is behind it hard to get back they only thing i really dislike about him is his passive since it feels so useless sometimes compared to people like lucian who can auto twice after using a spell.or ashe who auto crits and champion she has slowed and can build focus letting her be a machine gun when she uses Q.i mean i guess from what ive heard mid Varus is ok but i really wanted to play him adc and its pretty hard to make him work as an ADC in ranked teams when most of the time im facing Leona Ashe or some other adc i mean i can make him work solo Que but even then.Varus out of all the normal ADCs needs help from riot.
