If you really want to remove sightstone...

Why don’t you just change support items so they give a better trinket with their quest?

The yellow trinket could become a “sightstone”, with 3 charges that refill upon visiting the shop (it could have 4 charges once you reach X gold).

The red trinket could have its range/radius of detection increased and last longer.

The blue trinket could reveal a bigger area, give vision on a slightly bigger area and have its cast range increased.

This way supports would still have vision control and they would not give actives up. Junglers/midlaners could still get red trinket to clear wards and supports would still be the vision control role without giving a whole item slot up. Having a buffed trinket after those quests would give them enough vision without having to buy a “must” item like Sightstone.

They want Supports to maintain their identity as primary vision controllers. So they need to be able to both ward and deward alone.

Aren’t they also removing options though?

I liked to get FQC on a lot of AP supports and FOTM on a lot of tank supports, especially against rough matchups.

Removing their quest is okay-ish (at least for Targon’s since it’s abused by every ADC in the game rn) but removing their actives too... is not that good imo.

They are looking to bring back Frost Queen's claim and Talisman of Ascension in other forms (most likely stand alone items).

Let's say before you wanted to play Janna, you'd have to dump all this money into Sightstone and then also have to spend money to upgrade Coin right? So you either sit on SS and upgraded Coin and go for other things like Ardent, which is not efficient. Like if you want to rush Talisman do you really want that item after having to dump 800g into a SS. If you're waiting that long you'd probably prefer something like Ardent.

It makes your path into support items outside of the sightstone and starting item much quicker so your decisions impact the game in obvious ways. This should ideally make support more fun to play.

Considering how low income supports are, imagine the impact if you can get to Locket, Ardent Censor, Mikaels, Knight's Vow, Redmeption, all 800g earlier. Think of how badass you would feel if you're playing against like a Malzahar mid and Maokai top and then you rush Mikael's first? Just start cleansing your teammates at like lvl 8. Or potentially already having Locket built for the first team fight. This support change could potentially counter the damage creep from the new rune system because of easier access to shielding and damage reduction.
