I'm not a Ryze player but...

I feel like they nerfed him too hard. Sure, nerfing his early game was needed because his laning was dominate, but they hurt his late game too. For those that don't remember, his last nerfs were:

Overload Base magic damage decreased to 40/60/80/100/120 from 60/85/110/135/160.

Riot's Reasoning for nerf: As a strong late game scaling champion, Ryze's ability to bully out other top laners early is pretty bonkers, so we're reducing his base damage in lane while still leaving his ability to scale past laning phase intact. We'll be keeping an eye on Ryze over the next few patches, however, as these nerfs might be on the light side for how dominant a champ he is.

If they wanted to nerf his early game, but keep his late game intact, shouldn't that have done something like:

Overload Base magic damage decreased to 40/70/100/130/160 from 60/85/110/135/160.

This way, he is still weaker at all stages until he reaches rank 5 of Overload. I know it wasn't too long ago that Ryze was dominate in the top lane so people may still be upset at him, but he's pretty much disappeared altogether. Again, I'm not a Ryze player, but I just thought I would point this out.

They nerfed Ryze to put him out of contention while they rework him. Hopefully in a few months, he'll be back, and his kit will require skill.

The problem is that Ryze tends to level his Q first.

This means by mid game and nearing the end of the laning phase, making his rank 5 Q the same power as before would have all the same problems as before.

I was under the assumption that his overbearing early game was what was causing his spike to happen too early. If he still has a bad early game, his mid game shouldn't be too great unless he does well in lane. That's just my thought process though. Could be wrong.

I'm thinking more of a temp fix until the rework is done because we all know how long those can take. (I.E Darius)

Yorick would be a better example.

I Think he got gutted. I dropped 3 divisions from playing ryze top.

the nerfs dont sound bad on paper but in practice he does no dmg.

Yes, they nerfed him too hard. Meanwhile, Azir is a bigger lane bully than Ryze....

I think they look at GD for the "Waaaah X champ OP" threads and go off of what bad players think.

Well Azir doesn't have 3 point and click abilities. But releasing him was really fucking hypocritic, especially on the same patch as Cass rework

He needed to be gutted until a rework as he was a early game bully, scaled insanely well into late game, and had no counterplay to his point n click nukes. Im all for getting ryze to a spot wheres hes viable again but that just cant happen with his current kit.
