Why even play an ap mage mid anymore?

No like real talk, i see actually no reason to play any mage mid right now. lethality is busted and items like item 3814 exist to fuck you, if they pick an assassin like Zed mid and build that item you IMMEDIATELY lose your kill potential outside of getting ganks/they misplay horribly. if you want ap you can just pick Katarina Leblanc and probably do better. even if you DO run a full AD comp with pen being the meta its not really all that big a deal anymore. item 3814 item 3142 item 3147 build armor i dare you. on top of all this, mages are becoming better as supports now so you might as well just go bot and do that rather than just afk feed the Talon/LB. For siege AD's even have you covered with Jayce and Varus.

Eventually leathlity will be nerfed and mages will dominate the mid lane again

What really cheeses me off is the fact that they said Velkoz would be the go to mage for DPSing the enemy team. But there is 2 issues with this:

  1. You can sit here and say but Vel'Koz is good and has a unique play style. This may be true but literally 0 things changed in his kit other than his passive having minimal AP scaling true damage, and his ult dealing true damage after 3 stacks, Which is cool, but... please refer to point 2.

  2. Annie Pretty much all the other mages will outdo Vel'Koz now, especially Annie, tibbers alone has more threat potential as she can move around, while her ult does work for 40+ seconds, comes with a stun and insane benefits. And the biggest joke about it? Tibbers actually does MORE DAMAGE than a true damage Vel'Koz ult.

Now all this I was totally okay with til Lethality came, NOW I HAVE TO build tank on Vel'Koz with little to no AP to survive 20 Lethality(Really? just 20? causes me to buy a ton of armor and health? and then I still risk dying faster than other ADs who've built Lethality LOL) This Season is a joke, it's not even fun anymore. Winning is stale, losing is just plain aggrivating cause I don't feel like I got outplayed, I feel like I got cheated from a win every time because they simply picked ez mode champs that scale with lethality too well.
