How does MMR scale when Support Main?

iLuma··2 votes·2,335 views

Like, if you're a support main and you're playing as one that cannot carry a match. So you lose a match as like Thresh support or something. Does the MMR scale off your KDA? Like, if you went 1/2/27 as opposed to 0/7/10 , would one of those scale your MMR higher or . . . ?

I'm not really seasoned in the whole ranking system for League, I just play for fun. So I've never really touched into it until I started skimming these forums.

No. MMR is only affected by winning or losing. Personal performance isnt factored in to it.

MMR scales based off win/loss alone, I believe.

Like, if you're a support main and you're playing as one that cannot carry a match.

And if you're a support main, you know this isn't true. "Carrying" isn't about killing the enemies, it's about contributing significantly to secure a win.

Yeah, but I'm only Silver IV this season. So like, in the sense that if I land a Thresh hook on an ADC who ventured alone in our jungle and I lock Exhaust on him, but the ADC/Mid Laner on my team are next to me fighting over Blue Buff rather than securing the kill.

Speaking from experience. Not saying these players are bad, just saying, I can ward my life away and pull out extremely nice engages, but if there's no follow up or people are too busy raging about another lane going AFK, does your MMR get affected?

Because I can have people who are amazing at carrying and/or making plays, securing dragons, etc etc, but if they get in an argument over something as ridiculous as politics and it causes a player to go AFK and for us to lose the match due to the lack of an ADC or Mid, does that affect my MMR negatively and how heavily? o-o

Being able to play Thresh is really nice (I don't and I kind of regret it sometimes). But at lower Elo in a world where people don't click your lantern and are really bad at picking fights, I'm not sure if he's the best choice.

Lulu is a great choice. Pokes all day, and at least two "save the adc" buttons.

Engage supports that leave little to no room for interpretation are always good (Annie, Leona). Sona also fits the bill. Works with everything against everything, and will rarely get punished at low Elo. Lulu is somewhat of an acquired taste, but she's awesome when mastered.

I feel that Nami is too mechanical for how good she is. Janna is considered a free ticket to Diamond, but I'm not convinced that she'd work that well sub-Gold.

If you're calling yourself a "Support Main" and think you can't carry, you might have the wrong outlook on the role.

it scales of win/lose weighted by the mmr of all players comparing to yours, i believe

it means he cannot play and want to be carried a typical 'support main', lol

I'm carrying myself through ranked by playing Mid Lane right now. o-o

Carrying yourself through ranked as a support is difficult. I mean, I know a few people who do it, but they use champions like Sejuani, Katarina, Velkoz and Lux (ie solo lane champions with a sightstone.)

Like, one of my main champions is Janna. So maybe I get the ADC fed, but if Mid and Top are getting shredded, unless the team is following up on possible Jungle engages or that occasionally flash ult from Janna because their ADC stepped to far forward and I pushed him to our team, there isn't much you can do in the way of carrying. (Especially when it comes to that point when everybody is being toxic to each other for losing their laning phases, etc etc).

to win more than lose on average you simply should be better than enemy player on the same position, i.e. if you don't win as support more than lose you are a bad support, regardless who and how you get fed etc. enemy has a support too after all

I don't mean just carrying by securing kills. I mean, even making engaging plays and/or turning team fights. :o

I would like to know as well before I bother to finish the ten placement matches, because if KDR matters I need to get some time in mid...

i dont think anyone knows how exactly rito calculates mmr

No. Your MMR is calculated purely on whether you or the enemy team gets less trolls.

Kazaashi1 votes

Its based off the Elo ranking system: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system

MMR factors your wins and losses, the order they are achieved, and the relative MMR of the enemy team.
