WTF with matchmaking?

I have just discovered OP.gg, and am furious with Riot. I understand that I am not amazing at this game, but I though matchmaking pit me against other crappy players. But what formula says that a Bronze 5 should go heads up mid with a Silver 1 and be fair? or close?

I always thought that I was that inferior to the rest of B5, but maybe I am not. I'm not even in bronze and this person is getting ready to go gold. How, in a ranked match, is this viewed as fair?

If you notice, the disparity is only in the ranked flex games. Looking carefully(hovering over their rank), it says that that is solo que ranked data. So when you go to op.gg, it will display the solo que rank, not the flex que rank.

Your b5 they are silver5. Thats not that big of a difference.

Like 300 mmr.

some games have a team mmr difference of 800 or more now due to declining player base and a need to keep que times shorter.

i played a match a few weeks ago that had players from bronze 5 through diamond 3 in it.

This is nothing and is actually very good matchmaking.

This is also a flex que match so the matchmaking has a wider mmr range as it is basing your opponents mmr off of the other people you qued withs mmr as well not just your own.
