"The stats gained from a level is often worth more than gold from a kill".

Came up in the load screen. I never thought about it but it's kind of true when you do think about it. It's kind of like getting a mini triforce of stats. No wonder streamers are always so particular about not missing a single wave.

Yeah. When I see people flash under the enemy tower to trade their life for their opponents I cry a little on the inside, since often it'd be better to realise you've forced them to back and you can now grab an xp advantage, instead of going relatively even by trading kills.

But you get to invade their safe space and make them your bitch.

depending on how large the wave is its sometimes worth it to due since you sometimes can't completely force people off the wave, and stopping them from getting 2 waves, and getting to collect the build up of minions when you get back and kill them /freeze the lane with your level advantage

Mysticman891 votes

I did say 'often', there will sometimes be game states where trading is your best bet (enemy mejais/some minion configurations/enemy jg is about to murder you anyway/etc). Still, I see a lot of people default to the trade instead of taking the forced back, and more often than not it's not worth.

Also in my case I cry since I'm usually the support and it's my adc doing the suicide trade dive, and I can't protect them from that sort of thing. (Yeah maybe if I'm kench and I want to flash after them to nom them, but I'm refering to situations where it's 100% suicide on their part regardless of my play).

Forcing my opponent to miss waves makes me feel warm and toasty inside.

Trading kills under the enemy tower is often a good move for exactly this reason though... If you push 6+ creeps under their tower and trade kills denying them a full wave of XP while you lose NONE, that's huge. If you just let them back, they come back to lane with an item advantage (and in top lane they TP back so they lose maybe 3 creeps...), then you have an item disadvantage (and since they recovered probably a health and possibly mana disadvantage) and you need to back. In that case you maybe end up net up 2 or 3 creeps due to more optimal back timing. Denying over a full wave by trading kills is often a good move.

Depends, I've done this as Riven to Nasus because he loses so many stacks and the security to farm under tower without me diving him while I'm 6 and he's 5.

No shit.

Also a creep wave is worth about 1/3 of a kill.

CS is how to get ahead in the game consistently. it always has been.

No, I'm not talking about the gold from cs. I mean the hp, armor, mr, ad, as, mana, any scaling rune stats you have (including big stats like cdr) and damage on abilities gained from a level is already worth more than 300g even if you did not land a single last hit but soaked all the exp.

My comment had 2 parts.

Part one

No shit.

Replying to you stating the obvious.

Part two

Also me now stating the obvious.

The jungle though...

played a game last night, enemy jg Jax vs me Yi.

Jax did nothing but gank lanes, I'm guessing he was totally skipping krugs/raptors/wolves, and just back > gank top/bot > back. I was 41 farm vs his 16, equal number of kills+assists(3-4) and we both were level 6 somehow. Later I reached 100 farm vs his ~50, and were both level 11, with me having higher kill+assists. Felt so unfair, I felt no advantage in playing like a jungler vs what was essentially a roaming duo top

The problem there is with catch up EXP in the jungle.

By you clearing the jungle, you level up and bring the level of the jungle up (jungle monsters spawn with the average level of all players in the game). By having smite and a jungle item, you can get bonus exp from clearing monster camps that are higher level than you. And, you get 30 x level difference per monster in the camp, so Krugs and Raptors offer a ton of exp when they are higher level than you. Krugs (10 monsters) can give you 300 bonus EXP from being 1 level behind them. I think the level difference stops at 7, meaning Krugs could give you 2100 bonus EXP if you were 7 levels behind them. That could be 2 levels from one camp depending on what point you were in the game. Of course, if you're some how 7 levels behind and the enemy hasn't ended the game yet, I'd say that's the enemies fault for not ending with that much of a lead.

This is why some junglers start Raptors, because since the jungle monsters start at level 2, you get that bonus exp from the camp, giving you level 2 plus like 1/6 exp towards level 3. Plus they spawn a few seconds before the buffs do, so on blue side you could do raptors with help from mid plus your AOE, get level 2, and still have bot leash your red buff without putting them behind.

That's because catch up exp, that shit's dumb.

Meanwhile, you're at 3 complete items to his 1 and components.

A kill gives 300 gold (450 with assists) and some exp however it also deny the enemy gold and exp (since they can't farm while dead) which is huge for getting an exp and gold lead over the opponent (obviously has less of an impact if the opponent has teleport and teleport right back into lane)

Müffîñ1 votes

if you can liven after the kill, its worth, but not as much if you died for the kill.

If you're not timing your backs after killing a cannon wave you are playing the game wrong

I kinda' subconsciously knew this but it's really nice to see it quantified and in words. It'll make it easier to explain why I'm asking to freeze lane when I've zoned the enemy botlane out.

Terozu1 votes

This is part of what makes kill supports as effective as they are. They kill the enemy/force them off the lane. Denying them access to exp or farm, letting your adc get ahead.

Kind of? If you're reliant upon every single one of your stats, most certainly, and definitely if you're reliant upon abilities. It's why bruisers can't ever function bot, because too much is lost from lacking levels. ADC's who primarily auto attack, however, aren't so reliant on level ups as most of the time if you're being properly peeled only two stats matter: attack damage and attack speed.

Ahhh, suddenly it all makes sense now, the meta. I knew in general bruisers and mages wanted levels while ADC wanted items but now the exact reasons become clear.

ProfDrDeath1 votes

Yeah. Bruisers (or melees in general) want levels for the survivability, as the tankiness you get from base stats is huge (tripling to quadrupling Armor and Health between levels 1 and 18), and they need to move into the enemy fire to apply most of their damage or utility. Conversely, ranged champions are not as dependent on XP for survivability, as range is a form of it as well (can't hurt what you can't hit) and range usually does not scale with XP (barring the obvious exceptions of Tristana, Twitch, Kog'Maw and Jinx).

General Esdeath 1 votes

Especially if you have scaling runes

Pale Pirate1 votes

But this doesn't mean it gives more in combat stats. You get mana, and the resistance type that isn't useful in lane.

JJI7441 votes

This, btw, is why laners are often unable/unwilling to come help junglers that invade/get invaded when their laners are pushed to tower.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

I think I knew this even when I first joined. However, I think I greatly overestimated the impact of levels compared to items, because I would just push as hard as possible 24/7, for more exp, missing countless amounts of CS.

GrievousFetus1 votes

This is one of the biggest problems with the game. Kills are too inconsequential. No wonder the game is getting more and more passive and strictly farm oriented.

Losing XP and gold upon death when?
