Pretty sure most players from the closed beta or S1 would've maxed their pages and champ roster by now, especially if they used a mixture of RP and IP. I personally have accumulated 54k IP with nowhere to spend (finished champ roster, maxed rune pages and maxed runes). All I can do at this point is wait for new champs which I just buy for the sake of spending rather than liking the champ. Perhaps create the ability to donate ip? With a price of course e.g. 5 ip cost to donate 1 ip, or something similar. I mean, why am I even earning ip anymore?

OK, I've got it.

As a thank-you to the vets, you can now use exorbitant amounts of IP to purchase LoL merchandise, like bumper stickers, mousepads, and apparel. It also allows for cheap advertising for Riot! Everybody wins!

Or they could also allow you to buy cheap/quick to make skins (Chromas) for a high IP cost

The problem with this solution is that it is still temporary. It would eat iP1ayJarvan's IP once, but eventually, he'll have unlocked all of the new ultra-tier skins, too, and be in the same place--not to mention the amount of investment required by Riot to create the skins.

But what if he decks himself with Riot gear, and just can't use any more? Well, his gril is gonna want some of that merchandise. And so is his brother. And his parents. And his creepy Grunkle Stan from Oregon, too. Much more sustainable in the long-term.

I played with that guy once. I actually have a screenshot of his insane amount of wins on my pc lol. (I've been playing since early season 1 and have nearly 2k normal wins on my main account mind you, so it's not like I don't play a lot.) Didn't realize he was famous* though lol.

Actually making Chromas is probably cheaper for riot as well they only need to make it/do it once and they can sell it/give it to the entire community (and Chromas doesn't require anything else then recoloring current assets)

Maybe we have different definitions of exorbitant, but I feel like if it was unreasonably high this wouldn't be an issue. 50-100k IP for a mouse pad or skin or something wipes out like six months to a year of IP. (If you assume 300 IP a day (which is probably 2-5 games a day every day depending on how you play) then it's 2100 a week, and 109,200 in a 52 week year assuming no days off or IP spent on new champs) If you buy one or two things a YEAR from being able to purchase w/ IP I doubt it would break the bank, and it would give a reason for long term players to still earn IP. Riot could even limit it to riot advertising stuff like tshirts or bumper stickers, or a "fuck you, buy RP!" skin line for champs :D

Honestly? I'd almost rather be able to gift champs to friends with IP - I own all the champs, have all rune pages open, and own enough runes that i don't need any more (I've got the important ones, still working on the niche cases) - But i have a bunch of friends who are new players, or who havent bothered sinking absurd amounts of time into unlocking champs - even if i had to pay 2-3 times normal ip price.

id like to see skins for high amounts of ip (15k~30k range, maybe 50k for those elite skins like pulsefire ez or dj sona).

For that price though, it should probably be permanent then. I wouldn't mind that, but the problem with that would be that it eats into their revenues (thus unlikely).

Think of how many people have 50k IP. Not many at all compared to how many people buy the skins with RP anyways. Plus, they could make it so that you can only buy a skin with IP if you have maxed rune pages, runes, and champs like you do.

I'd hate to hurt their money intake but they already sell champs for RP and people still buy them for RP over IP and they don't seem to care. I think it won't hurt as much as you may believe but the up side is unused skins will be bought and used and people can get rid of most of their IP. New skins will not cost IP until 2-3 months after release.

True, I guess. I didn't think of that. What I would really like that won't affect gameplay balance would be a Rent-a-Skin function that works with IP. But then again, something like that would take away revenue so I doubt it'll even be considered. What can be done? Anything further would affect gameplay and I don't like the idea of that either.

A lot of abuses cases could be fixed by not having the feature available from the beginning and instead cost something like 1000 RP, 10k IP and require you to be level 30. After you pay the cost you can then access special IP sink features, and maybe get a special banner or something to show you're a dedicated fan of the game? By having a large initial RP and IP cost it would discourage botting and would maybe encourage riot to let you temporarily buy a skin for everyone on your team.

Set a macro bot to play games all day. and about once a week, just unload a few thousand IP onto your main account or whoever pays your for it.

Then IP sales from online third parties would start. They would trump the sales of RP from Riot. That would get really bad really fast.

Just buy more rune pages and start experimenting. I wish the combine was till around, that would help you get rid of IP.

Riot is afraid of the feature being abused, but I think the easiest way to make it non abusive is it's only accessible if everything in the store that can be bought with Ip is bought, with that, it'll take like a year and a half or so worth of play time to donate IP

I mean.... that would be nice, but wouldn't be really balanced for Riot. I think it's a blunder by them to have the system not really thought out to address guys like you, which may be few but it's still a big thing. To not have stuff appealing to them to buy, to not extend the options a little bit. I just think donating might not be a good idea because that's what IP is and should be: a sink that cannot flow between players and affect inflation in the entire system.

Quick fix for the bot thing. What if, in order to actually give IP you must either win a certain amount of games per week or have a certain ranking (At least Silver 1 or so) in order to donate IP? This would prevent farm bots (who lose most games) from actually doing anything.

I still ask the question of why I can buy a champ with IP but I can't gift a champ with IP. It makes no sense other than greed. I have 60k IP sitting there with absolutely nothing to spend it on.

I've played since about half way through S2 and I've got 20 rune pages with excess runes, every single champ, and I've got nearly 30k more IP to blow. That's not even counting the fact I've gotten almost all the expensive runes like spell vamp and all of the crit damage runes. The last three champs I bought first day with IP without a care. I even had a rather long hiatus and I only play a couple of games every day, so I'm sure people who started early S4 or late S3 could easily be at the same point I am right now.

No. It's best to leave some RP only features as RP only, this cheapens RP features because you get access to EVERY RP feature without buying RP, which is worse than IP skins. I just wish for Riot to give us something to do with the IP, not get freebies off them.

I don't think buying a 1,400RP skin for 140,000 IP would cheapen RP... I don't think u realize 140,000 ip is practically 1,400 wins... which =1,050 hours worth of ip for 1 skin...
