Tl;DR New boots items for ADCs that protects them from ad melee champs only (assassins and divers/fighters) without impacting other players itemization Think of it like the AD version of

With the recent changes to lethalily we see more and more assassins and fighters using those items against their preys. At the moment, it feels bad to play an AD Carry, because you don't have the tools to deal with them. I dream of the day, when the Rengar and Kha'Zix are going to have to use more than 1 rotation to kill a squishy, the day where talon is actually going to have to use his bleed to kill you, the day where Zed is actually going to have to land his shurikens to delete you.
Problem: ADCs getting oneshot by ad ''assassins'' champions Solution: Get some armor
Problem: Right now, we 3 bad MID/LATE GAME options Guardian Angel/Randuin/Dead's man plate Solution: Create a new item you can get earlier into the game without affecting too much your damage dealer role
Problem: ADCs with armor items would completely change the bot lane ad vs ad balance Solution: Create an item that doesn't affect botlaners between each others
Problem: We don't want this item to be used by tanks and other roles Solution: Make it scale with stats ADCs use
Problem: We don't want to give ADCs an imbalanced power boost Solution: Take the power from somewhere else
Final solution example:
New item --> Hextech Boots
RANGED champions only
Unique passive: +45 movement speed
Unique passive: Hextech armor ( % physical damage reduction that isn't applied to ranged auto attacks. This reduction scales with BONUS AD and BONUS attack speed)
Base stats: TBD (None? Attack Speed? AD? HP? MR? Life Steal?)
**Why is that healthy for the game: **
- New Itemization paths for marksmen -> This is an addition, not a change
- Shifts some power (attack speed from
) to a from of survivability
-> ADCs will lose dmg by buying this item, but they always have the option to take something else if it's not needed - It's targeted to a specific class to defend against another *It doesn't affect lethality since it isn't armor; it's physical dmg reduction -> In the end, it has the same effect as armor, but it doesn't impact other players itemization
- It doesn't affect the bot lane
Why targeting the melee ad champions?
Marksmen already have some options to defend against ap champions
But there is no offensive item against AD
Why not simply make a new item with AD and Armor? Every single ad champions would buy an item that gives offensive and defensive stats. It would be a must buy on every jungler and top laner. That would be REALLY bad.
Why should it be for ADCs only? We've all heard ''ADC in 2017''. There's reason for that. Most marksmen need time to deal damage. They are the ultimate sustained damage dealer of their team. They also need to get relatively close to the fight. Mages, on the other hand, are mostly looking at their spells and cooldowns. ADCs' spells generally enhance the ability of auto attacking in diverse forms. That IS the biggest problem right now. It's also the reason why we get to see mages in the botlane. Every point they invest in their abilities directly impacts the result they have on their trades and damage. The same effect isn't fully applied when you level up your traps with Caitlyn, as an example. So, this item would allow ADC's to survive a little bit easier against a single type of champion and even get a bit more time to lifesteal.
