At this point, Frozen Mallet should be reworked/removed

Glacial augment exists and it’s at least a bit healthier than Frozen Mallet

If you want the slow and the ability to kite, use the keystone

Is there any other reason for Mallet to exist?

Or just make it melee only

Only reason I can think of is to use frozen mallet and a different keystone like grasp. Frozen mallet has pretty good stats

Both Mallet and Rylai's are fundamentally unhealthy, in that they allow champions to apply permanent slows when they really shouldn't be doing that. Mallet has become significantly worse in this regard now that its slow is both stronger (even on ranged champions) and lasts for longer than Rylai's. Both I feel should be retooled into items that occasionally provide stronger movement-impairing CC, rather than a perma-slow, though I don't think Mallet needs to be removed entirely, unless we really do not need to give any AD champion better sticking or kiting power.

Urgot They already removed Sterak's from his item pool and compensated him with a buff. If they keep taking away items from him, then he would end up in a state in which he has to build just suboptimal items, but has so insane base stats that he can still be successful.

In which case it would mean that it doesn't matter anymore what he builds, since he will get carried by his base stats anyway. I personally don't want this case to happen.

Frozen Mallet exists so that Sion can punch you to death in zombie form without you simply meandering away from him at a leasurely speed as counterplay.

Frozen mallet used to be an actually good choice for a lot of fighters that wanted extra beef, some more damage, and some utility to go with it. That was at least 5 or 6 seasons ago. At this point, the only champions that even use it are Gnar (unhealthy) and Shyvana (healthy).

gnar is the only one abusing frozen mallet as a marksman when the reality is, item 3022 SHOULD BE BUILT ON MARKSMAN. it should be built to counter item 3071 but instead it's being built to supplement the movement speed of item 3071 which is wrong. this is why item 3071 shouldn't exist in the game.

I am baffled at the fact that people think keystone is healthier

Yes potentionally having frozen mallet keystone fromlevel 1 ll clearly never cause issues XD healthy design 10/10

Glacial Augment for Teemo disables his early game because it can only guarantee you another auto attack if the opponent decides to not use their minion wave. Aery has become necessitated after nerfs to Teemo's E so that you can keep up on trades with the opponent, and honestly Frozen Mallet is used primarily for Teemo to transition to mid game with a power spike his team can use. You otherwise are a no hard CC champ with less stats compared to an ADC and no usable ultimate for skirmishes. I think people sometimes forget how garbage of a champion Teemo is without his items. AP itemization isn't correct for Teemo as his more successful builds are typically his on-hit builds, though you will see in lower elo that AP Teemo wins a lot more.

As for Gnar, he literally relies on the item in its entirety. Shyvana also is in this branch. Neither of these champions can take Glacial Augment without technically taking a nerf to their playstyle, making them completely weak in areas they're supposed to be good in (primarily in the mid game).

Urgot and his ilk who simply do not have the right amount of CC/engage potential to suddenly warrant them never building the item. It's because this item exists that the champions function at all and are not in perpetual meta limbo from not being able to engage properly. Unlike Righteous Glory which shares a lot of the traits that you could argue for on Frozen Mallet, you do not want to be limited by its cooldown on these champs nor do you always want to be within the enemy's range.

You can take Nasus as the example of where Righteous Glory works and Frozen Mallet fails -- he has Wither to follow up with CC and rushes 45% CDR to keep Wither on his opponent nearly forever. Tanks that use Righteous Glory have follow up CC. Skarner who is a bruiser that uses Righteous Glory has an entire ultimate dedicated to CC'ing the enemy. Frozen Mallet would be redundant.

Teemo has no instant detonate long range shrooms. Gnar's Q is avoidable and he has less movement speed than melee champions. Urgot's Q is avoidable and his E is not a fast gap closer. Things like Shyvana don't even have CC without Chilling Smite/ red buff.

I agree that the item needs a rework, but removal? We're too far in now to be saying that. I'd love it if the item was only exclusively buyable to X or Y champions so that it wouldn't warrant nerfs in the first place, but it is what it is.

I much rather it be melee only.

How about changing how mallet works? What if the items slows for 50% but the refreshing stacks lower it like:

  • First hit: 50%
  • Second hit: 25%
  • 3th hit: 20%
  • 4th hit: 15%
  • 5th hit: 15% ...

Alternatively only the first auto slows for 50% and the others remain on 15%.

The 3th option would be with range reductions. Mallet will only slow for 10% on range champions. For melee's it slows for 20%.

4th option would be a combination:

  • Mallet will only slow for 10% on range champions. For melee's it slows for 20%.
  • The first hit of mallet will slow for 50% (30% for melee), recharges every 10-6 seconds (based on level).

5th option, make it melee only and give urgot a new item.

it's a situational item, it helps at times. It's just how i feel about item 3110 , because even when you fight a team that has full AD there's always that true damage lurking in and the attack speed reduction it's pathetic, no srly wtf? and item 3025 gives 20% CDR too! what's the benefit of the armor + no HP and a shit passive. 15% attack speed reduction.. item 3087 this shit gives 35 and does magic dmg, item 3046 this one gives 45!! wtf is it actually slowing down? leona's auto attack? but as i first said, situational. There's some odd world out there were frozen heart is optimal.

DeadUnborn2/13/2018, 3:30:47 PM1 votes

it is good on Urgot an for fun builds.

Only champs that are a REAL problem with mallet are Gnar and Kog. Gnar is being mini reworked this patch. Kog needs to have guinsoos nerfed and he is solved
