5.3 Ahri Rework: Q scaling Overlook

Hello,

I'd like to make a quick discussion on the Ahri Ahri Q which has been over-buffed since her rework. If you land the front of your Q right now it is very easy land back side. I did a quick check in game and her rank 1 Q gives her a 65% movement speed buff. Being half again as fast as any player in the game makes it much easier to land the backside of her Q which procs as true damage.

Back before the rework it was very difficult to land a the front and backside of her Q on a target, and you compensated players for that difficulty by making it scale at 70% of AP and making it half true damage (most similar abilities scale at only 60%). The movement speed buff on her Q makes it much easier to land both sides, but you may have overlooked that it is still scaling as if it were very hard to land at 70% (and half of it is true damage that can't be reduced, my guess is its more like an 75% - 80% depending on a the targets MR rating). As a result pound for pound she can hit harder than you intended. Remember, Half that Q is true damage already so it can't be reduced, and its been made much easier to land now.

I think for an ability with as much utility as it has (Half true damage and granting a large movement speed buff) it should be scaling more in line with other champions. How do you guys feel about this?

I feel her damage is underwhelming until you have items. She can be strong but she doesn't need a nerf. I don't like the idea of throwing her numbers out on her q because its her main source of good damage.

Ahri is strong. Much of her power budget is in her Q. The main danger you run into when nerfing Q is that most of the skill in using Ahri lies in getting maximum value from Q. She feels pretty stupid to play against when she gets most of her damage from W and R.

I would expect any further Ahri nerfs (and there is an argument for them) to happen on W and R, which are the less skill testing parts of her kit.

By the by, I'm not sure what simiilar abilities you're thinking of as having 0.6*AP scaling. Some mage AoE nukes that are popular these days:

Xerath Q 75% Annie W 85% Lissandra Q 65%

Yeah, I Guess you are right. I am playing the wrong champions right now. I was looking at the people that I play like: Mordekaiser E 60%. Will be nerfed to 50% in 5.4 Vladimir Q 60% Ryze Q 40% ZIggs Q 65% Galio Q 60% Kayle Q 60%

I should change my champion pool to people that riot has favored with correct damage ratios.

Ziggs Q is the only one of these that's close to filling the same role as Ahri Q, as a mage poke + waveclear tool.

Vlad, Ryze, and Kayle Q are all targeted abilities, which is why the payoff can't be all that amazing.

Galio, Vlad, Ryze, and soon-to-be-Morde are all tanky dudes. Not reasonable to expect them to scale as well as a squishy.

Ahri's main damage and killing potential comes from landing skill shots so I think the bonus damage is an incentive to use her. With the nerf of her w and r's range making her move closer to drop her full combo its fitting to have decent damage on her skill shot q. I think ahri is harder to play as then a decent number of other mid laners so players that are good with her should be benefited. But I may be biased since I play alto of ahri
