Hey guys,

I would like to hear about your opinions on Brand, our good ol' mage. I've been playing him recently and I honestly had a blast. His damage is potential is incredible and I even had quite a lot of success using him as an offensive support. By offensive support, I mean that I rush a sightstone and upgrade my Spellthief, but once that is done, I go full magic penetration and some defensive items such as Zhonya and Rylai's. Yes, I admit it, I end up taking more kills than I wish I did (burn/ignite), but the opponents get so far behind my ADC always ends up carrying anyway. Finally, I think he is an awesome example of a balanced champion who has clear strengths and clear weaknesses without too many gimmicks and passive aspects in his kit. He is straightforward and get his job done when played well. Also, combo-ing an ADC and his/her support to death is one of the most satisfying things I played in this game :)

That's my story, what about yours? Where do you use Brand? How do you build him (items, runes, masteries, summoner spells)? Do you think he is okay, in need of a nerf, of a buff? Do you have any interesting story/anecdote to tell me about him?

  • He hits like a truck.
  • He's unreliable. Both for damage and CC.
  • Dying to DoTs feels miserable and shields make him cry.

If he was reliable he'd be overpowered. If he was reliable and had "balanced" numbers, he'd be boring and/or weak.

Being at the mercy of the RNG Gods is not a playstyle that everyone appreciates, but at this point it is part of the character. I think he's fine staying as a niche pick.

I love Brand. I don't play him as much as I could, true, but every once in a while I will take him out for a spin and have a genuinely fun time doing it. His simplicity is nice, while at the same time i love the amount of different combo options there are in his kit (being able to mix and match which burn effects you want based on your situation). He has insanely high aoe damage but is very high risk so it feels oh-so-satisfying when you manage to pull off that full burst combo. Haven't tried him support but i can imagine that W-ult combo being a little ridiculous.
