AD vs Tank Pyke

With the changes currently on the PBE. It made me think, is tank pyke good because the other one is bad or is it good because it is op?

Tank pyke is chosen because high elo Pyke players discovered quite quickly that Lethality builds have limitations versus teams who can actually react to his windows of visibility.

Lethality might have the potential to put out damage, but it doesn't mean crap if the opponent can 2 shot you.... which is generally what can happen after any adc has item 3095 , or a team has a diver, or there are Conquerer users. He generally can't deal with any of them.

There's also champs who literally make W and E a joke, like Nasus Diana . Nasus can literally make Pyke W slower than walking speed with Wither. Diana can actually outskill/range Pyke's E and subsequent W with her Q range and followup R. And there are a ton of champs like this.

Basically, Lethality Pyke is a Novelty only to be pulled out versus teams who have no real strong slows, no mobility, and have 2-3 adcs (although adcs can kill him, he can also kill them). Any real team..... constructed with Pyke in mind or even half constructed for the Juggernaut meta..... destroys Lethality Pyke.

I get sick of comments about his R being True damage, when it's really not. It's only True damage if any one of 13 conditions are not met to avoid it. Namely, the first being, NOT LOW HP.

Even if you Support Bot as Pyke (bot as in not really play the role but wait to R), That R might also kill you in half a second. Good teams know that their teammate is a target, and they are waiting for Pyke to R. They will heal the target, prevent the True damage, or if they can't, they will absolutely take Pyke with their teammate. Or.... they just stun Pyke mid ult, kill him, and save their teammate that way.

Lethality Pyke is a Novelty. Nothing more. Something to stomp low elos with low reaction times with.

So was the passive change necessary? I'm low elo so I can't tell the difference between gameplay encouraging changes and nerf changes.

The passive change is horrid and is going to make Pyke win rates taper off the higher the elo goes. He'll still do about 50% at low elo, but at high elo he's going to be lucky to hit 41-43% win rate.

Tank Pyke is good because his abilities do a good enough base damage and (on live, not PBE) his execute is a true execute meaning he doesn't need all that lethality when he can just be beefy af and still deal good damage. The addition of a lethality scaling on the ult is just to persuade players to play him as he was intended to in design. Don't get me wrong, tank Pyke will always deal less damage, but so far it has been better overall to play him with stacked resistances.
