The difference of communicating and just telling your team to suck it.

Communicating:

You: "I want to play this champion with that playstyle. Its really different to how the role should be played and you all have to play around me, are you ok with that?" Teammates: "Sounds dangerous, we would rather play traditional and safe." You: "It works, but I understand that you would feel unconfortable, especially since, like I said, you all would have to adapt to me... You sure you dont want to risk it, I promise it works." Teammates: "Look, Some of us are in promo games, we would really like a safe game..." You: "Ok, its 4 against one, I will play a more tradintional way."

Telling your team to suck it: You: "I want to play this champion with that playstyle. Its really different to how the role should be played and you all have to play around me, deal with it" Team: "Please dont, we...." You: "INSTALOCKING, COMMUNICATION FUCK YEAH!!!!!"

What if i ask to play adc Darius, and my team refuses? do you think i should not play adc darius because 4 random dudes think they know better than me if it's good or not?

now forget adc darius, forget about any off-meta pick and imagine this situation:

me: "i want to play Urgot, do you feel confortable with this pick?" team: "No" me: ???????

that's exactly the same thing you don't ask your team what you should pick, if you're about to pick adc urgot, adc darius or whatever you want you know better than them if it will work or not

ADC Urgot is still a range physical damage dealer, so he fits in the role. When you play ADC Urgot as an ADC and not as some crazy off jungler/roamer, go and pick him, noone will ban you for that.

You play the role you queued for with a champion fit for the role.

Darius ADC however requiers the whole team to play different, so yes, you should ask if they are ok with a bruiser bot instead of an ADC!

the role of ADC was never being a ranged physical damage dealer, you're confusing it with the marksmen class

No one will report you for ADC urgot, because it used to be meta before so no one will blame you for picking it however if you ask them if you can play urgot you can be 100% sure that the answer is no

ADC isn't a class Darius ADC doesn't requier the team to play differently, only the support has to play differently during the laning phase

According to your logic, Sona OTPs that don't buy sightstone (and still win a lot) should ask their team if they're ok with skipping sightstone, because it requieres their team to play safe and buy control wards

this is ridiculous, people are asking everyone to play like everyone and be their slave

Simpel rule:

Does what you wnat to play force your whole team to change how they play?

If Yes: ASK!

You might not belive this, but there are 4 other humans in your team whos enjoyment of the game is as important as yours. And if your way of having fun means you cut theirs, its a bad way to have fun! You are not the most important person playing LoL! The whole community does not exist to please your wishes! You are but one player of many, and every singel one of your teammates is as important as you are! Your fun is NOT more important than the others.

Bullshit, I have played Shaco for years and when he wasn't a new shiny reworked version, people would beg you to pick someone else.

What, I have to not play my favorite champion who is perfectly viable, because a bunch of angry nerds want their LCS meta picks?

Dynikus2 votes

he's not talking about off meta picks. he's talking about off meta strategies, like smite nunu counterjungling and leaving bot lane 1v2.

The thing is, only 1% of players do the first one and almost all of us are in diamond. (Gee I wonder why?)

And, particularly since the introduction of role selection, the other 99% of the community exclusively does option 2 in lobby every lobby.

Those of us in high level have been telling folks for years option 1 is the way to go. Why does it take a catalyst like a strange pick to galvanize everyone else to consider something other than option 2?

Anyways, have a +1. Teamwork op.

Pick anything you want, as long as you know it will work and have some viable strategy to make it work through all stages of the game. If you pick Leblanc jungle and end up losing the game because of it, then you have to accept a report.

Raoul1 votes

In that case, enjoy your report if you force 4 other people to play around you just because you think you are more important than they are.

Snowman Arc1 votes

Not forcing anyone to play around me. But yeah, if you lose because of no ADC in the game, then that's the trollpick's fault.

Aptest1 votes

no you are wrong.

you are conflating communication and compliance.

in your "communication" example, the team insists and the innovator backs down, and that is what makes it "communicating".

That's BS.

midnight oil241 votes

Let's look at how it could go:

1: team is polite, says that they'd rather not because they're in promo games. Person decides to back down, and is polite in doing so.

2: Team says: "sorry, but we'd rather play a bit more traditional. Some of us are in promos, so now's not the time to learn new strategies. Person says "#### that. I want to play Kat ADC." and locks in. Nowhere in the first one are people forcing their views down the person's throat, the person asks if they're okay with that, and responds based on the teammates. In the second one, the person disregards what htey say and forces them to adapt to Kat adc.

Aptest2 votes

yes,

but also, both examples are of communication that occurred.

example 1 is communicating. example 2 is communicating. telling your team to suck it is communicating.

the end result of (2) is a little less comfortable for the players who's opinions are overruled. But they still conveyed their opinions successfully, and it is obvious their opinions were taken under consideration.

the kat player in example 1 thinks about the team's input and chooses to accept it. His choice of accepting it means he has successfully concluded "communication" with his team.

the kat player in example 2 thinks about the team's input and chooses to reject it. His choice of rejecting it means he has successfully concluded "communication" with his team.

get it?

But look at it like this: if you were talking to someone and they were, say, telling you that they were going to take you and your friends to see this one movie, but you would all have to split the cost. If you checked with your friends, and they all said taht they didn't want to see that movie, but would go if it was some other movie, and the other guy withdrew his offer to have you all pay for a movie he wanted to see, how different is that?

Communicating also means listening and making compromises. You're stuck with these people for a while, you want to listen to what htey have to say. You're not going to get allies if you just reject other people's opinions on something that actually effects them.

Aptest1 votes

Communicating definitely does not include making compromises.

Especially not, when "making compromises" is an under-the-table way of saying "this one specific compromise that means you don't get to do any of the things you're communicating about and forces you to abandon your entire line of play".

You should listen to your team mates: but you don't have to comply. You should try to make adjustments to your line of play based on their input. You can reject some of their opinions while accepting others. And yes if you say no on the big one they will be unhappy...

...but it's not going to be you who is at fault at them being unhappy.

Mary: Let's all go see Age of Ultron together! I'll do the driving! Let's all split the bill! Lary: Actually I want to see Heathcliff. Sophie: Heathcliff sounds great! Aptest: Heathcliff it is! Mary: Umm im not paying for Heathcliff. Sophie: Yeah but everybody really wants to see that. How about you meet us after at the pub?

...i don't think your example quite fits

i guess I should get banned for picking bard even when my ADC tells me not to

or for playing Illaoi even if my team asks for a tank

i guess I should never experiment with something new either, that might get me banned

Raoul1 votes

When you pick bard, do you stay with your ADC and support him? If yes, you can pick whatever you like. Hell, if you can peel and you stick with your ADC, you can pick Teemo Support for all I care. Just dont queue as Support and then tell your ADC "YOu are on your own bro, I go counterjungeling, good luck and, if you survive, see you in 10 minutes!"

Honestly, are you people really to stupid to understand that its not the pick that matters, but that if you pick support, you should freaking play support and not second jungler? Or do you just dont WANT to understand it, because you prefere to cry "WHAAAA; RIOT IS BANING PEOPLE FOR PICKING OFF META!!!!" because it makes you feel special?

Big Lincoln1 votes

so I need to support a certain way as dictated by you? hmm so I can get banned for not playing the way you want

hmmmmmmmm really makes me think

Raoul1 votes

Ok, now you are just playing dumb or you are really one of these special "noone is more important than me" snowflakes. Any way, you are not worth the energy it takes to push the buttons to write to you.

Big Lincoln1 votes

and yet here you are, making sure that you have the last word :^)

but ty for enlightening me, I'll be sure to report all ADC picks I don't like from now on

Athenes Lulu1 votes

I'll add on to this.

Communicating: Me: I'm a one-trick X main and I'm much more comfortable with playing a backline enchanter. I know you're much more comfortable with tanks but all you need to change about your playstyle is to play safer, is that ok? I get to feed less, and you get to feed less. I'm not too comfortable with playing with teammates that relies on their supports for kills, but I'll also try to do something. Teammates: Fine.

Still communicating: Me: I'm a one-trick X main and I'm much more comfortable with roaming here and there. Teammate: What? PLEASE don't make me 1v2 all day; I'm not going to because that's literally giving the enemy team a huge advantage and I won't be able to farm for jack shit! Me: Relax! I'm not going to roam 24/7, just play safe for like a minute, I'll help my jungler with ganking mid, and I'll return. JUST A MINUTE. Teammate: Fine.

Not communicating: Me: I'm a one-trick X main and I'm much more comfortable when I'm not botlane. Teammate: What? PLEASE don't make me 1v2 all day; I'm not going to because that's literally giving the enemy team a huge advantage and I won't be able to farm for jack shit! Me: I don't care, shut up, I GET TO DO WHAT I WANT BECAUSE BOTLANE IS BORING XDXDXDXDXD Teammate: Please come down to botlane at least once every 3 minutes, I seriously don't want to get massively disadvantaged later game... Me: HA SUCK IT I DONT CARE XD

FYI

Communication just means letting them know.

I don't have to comply with what that 0/5/0 Yasuo wants me to do.

ExcusemeFellows1 votes

They are both communicating though, second example is exchanging with others the idea that they don't really care: now if you second example had said that they locked in without any comment, then that's not communicating at all. I'm so sorry if you don't see it like that, but it doesn't actually work like that in your examples.
