Yasuo is still a problem

Riot, your thoughts on nerfing Yasuo so he has to build crit would work.. if he didn't get double crit chance. Phantom dancer and infinity edge are all he needs, and then he can continue to build tanky and win the game. He can get dumpstered in lane, but as long as he exists and builds tanky, he will continue to be a problem. You need to nerf the champion properly. Increase the dash timer, reduce his overall damage output, or just have his damage go down when he builds tanky. Do something to gut tank assassins properly when you've come out and said it's toxic to the game and you don't support it. Tank ekko is still a problem, tank yasuo is still a problem.

There are a few tips that people already know about facing a Yasuo; poke his shield off with autos, he's weakest right after his tornado is gone, and he's weak to ganks. I'd like to go into more detail.

The key to beating a Yasuo in lane is proper minion management, and proper management is different depending on whether you're a ranged or melee champion. As a ranged champion, you want to keep the wave in 1 of 2 places depending on Yasuo's health relative to yours. If Yasuo is ahead or even, you want to keep the wave frozen a bit outside of your own tower, so that he has to go into tower range to order to hit you. You can basically do whatever you want to him if the wave is in this spot because you can simply retreat into tower range if he tries to go onto you. However, if you're ahead of him in health, you want to start a slow push, so you can poke him whenever he tries to CS and you'll have a buffer of minion support if he tries to all in you. In this case, he can't do much either.

For a melee champion, you want to slow push pretty much all the time. Yasuo is extremely vulnerable to being all inned by melee champions when he's trying to CS, and a good Yasuo will try to do a slow push of his own to discourage his opponent from attacking him. One important thing to understand is that while enemy minions are oftentimes Yasuo's best friends since he uses them to dash, they are also one of his biggest weaknesses since he's required to tank them in order to trade. If you can bait him into tanking a lot of minions with some kind of defensive ability like an ori shield, you can very easily come out ahead in trades, provided you don't panic, keep autoing, and hit some extra free damage on him when he tries to get out.

Generally speaking, a Yasuo will always want the wave in 1 of 2 places. He either wants a slight minion advantage on his side so he can get free opportunities to poke with Q, but not so many more minions that the wave gets frozen outside the enemy tower. A good Yasuo will bait you into hitting minions with AOE abilities to push the wave back towards him if it starts to get too close to tower, allowing him to be aggressive again. The other position is for when Yasuo has a lead on his opponent; he will want to freeze outside of his tower, leaving a long trail of minions to dash through so he can all in you if you try to walk up to CS. The key to beating Yasuo is to keep the wave where you want it to be rather than the way he wants it to be, or there's not a whole lot you can do as a lot of champions.

Other general tips for beating Yasuo include: Ask for ganks, an aggressive Yasuo player is very easy to bait and kill if he isn't strong enough to 1v2 already. Take exhaust as a combat summoner if your kill pressure on him is low, it’s a great way to neutralize his aggression in lane as well as neuter him in teamfights. If Yasuo misses his tornado, that is the time to be aggressive. His Q is on CD, he has no CC for a while, and his ult, by extension, is unavailable. And if Yasuo gets too aggressive in lane and messes up when trying to trade, all in him right then and there. If you get a lead against Yasuo, most champions will be able to zone him out heavily since he's a squishy melee only champion with no escape and no natural sustain.

I love seeing my post in so many Yasuo qq threads. Feelsgoodman.

Lol when an aatrox main is fucking over Yasuo you know he has counterplay lUL

You don't feel peeved at people that don't credit you for making the original post?

DunkinNoobs1 votes

So long as the world becomes a less stupid place, I couldn't care less if I get credit or not. Hell, it's a post any higher elo player with experience regarding Yasuo could have written; the fact that it happened to be me deserves no real extra credit.

This an essay holy. For me the path to playing against a Yasuo is playing the champ himself. I learned the dash distance, timers, and his ms his outplay potential when he has minions. I do like you took the time for making an in depth guide to destroying Yasuo, props!

All these downvotes from Yasuo mains.

Håppy2 votes

Right? Unlucky. But that's the unfortunate reality about criticizing and complaining about imbalance in a popular champion's kit.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Maybe it's because your criticism isn't correct?

Håppy2 votes

Not to you, it isn't. But I see from your games that you're an avid user of the tanky assassin meta, so I wouldn't expect you to come out and admit that it's an awfully toxic addition to the game.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

I am a tank assassin abuser?

I barely play ekko.

I sometimes play bruiser yi.

I never go defense on kha'zix.

I don't play Yasuo anymore.

I am not a tank assassin abuser like you say.

LordUrganoth4 votes

so...did you ever tried to treat him with hard cc?

LordUrganoth3 votes

if you can't dodge his Qs,it doesen't mean he's still a problem. Think about item 3143 :)

Håppy4 votes

Doesn't matter. Reduces crit damage, sure, but he still gets free 50% armor pen for landing his ult and having two crit items late game, and he'll still be doing insane damage to your carries. And that's not considering the rest of his team. He doesn't sacrifice anything for building tanky, and covers all his weaknesses by doing it.

Ralanr8 votes

Bonus armor pen.

CC him

CC him

Thats a response to every single champion in the game and not specific enough to facing him. It isn't like say.... facing draven and forcing axe drops because you can see where is axes are gonna land.

NightmareAmazoX3 votes

I could say the same for Veigar who can stack 9000 AP and build 5000 HP but naaaaah, Be realistic. Sheesh. Quit whining.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Thing is Veigar doesn't have mobility, has a weaker laning phase, and it takes forever for him to ramp up.

Nasus falls more into this category, but he's actually weak early, still falls off late, and isn't mobile.

Woook3r3 votes

the problem is that tank items are balanced around most tanks having shitty kits. so the items they build are overpowered and cheep to compensate. tanks wouldnt be in the game if it werent for the items they get access to.

The problem is that some other champions can have access to those items. Fizz was also a problem.

Riot has an opportunity to do something about this with the base armor vs bonus armor difference but they havnt figured it out yet. Ekko has lower base armor than say garen, but its not low enough to make the difference.

MunchCrunchLunch3 votes

just make him less of a lane bully. and hes fine. hes the biggest lane bully in the game. which makes no sense since he scales better than 80% of champ pool

NightmareAmazoX3 votes

Leblanc Viktor AurelionSol Gangplank Rumble Ziggs Varus They also are one of the best lane bullies

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

. . . And how often do ziggs & rumble bully an assassin out of lane?

NightmareAmazoX1 votes

By taking Exhaust.

[zombie-brand-clap] You know that's like saying, the best counter to overpowered champions, is to ban them.

<insert ranged champion here>

Darius. I hate to break it to ya'... But you're not a lane bully. ;p

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Lol he said yasuo is the biggest lane bully which is completely false.

I mentioned darius because he counters the entire melee roster. Only gnar and vayne top do shit on him.

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

Lol he said yasuo is the biggest lane bully which is completely false.

You implied Darius was the biggest lane bully. So I had to counter your smart assery with some more.

Only gnar and vayne top do shit on him.

I play mages top. And Soraka. There's more than just Gnar and Vayne. ;p

GULAG 4 U1 votes

And Mage tops aren't even meta, excluding ekko, lissandra, and mordekaiser. And ekko and morde aren't really mages and mordekaiser vs darius is skill matchup.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

And Mage tops aren't even meta

So? Sivir and Naut mid aren't meta either. Doesn't stop me.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Is it really worth breaking a good teamcomp so you can counter a toplaner?

I don't know.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Who said anything about counters? (Actually, I probably implied it.)

And going off-meta doesn't mean breaking a team comp. I'm still mindful of what our team needs. But when playing top, I primarily use mages. Just like some people use ADC's (Vayne, Quinn, etc.), Tanks, Juggernauts, or Teemo Satan.

Wolfram Oxford3 votes

Its only a problem because his wind wall and shields. Literally, if they made it so he had both scale with offensive stats or something like that tank Yasuo would be inefficient. Right now he can just build some damage and all tank and then ignore people while he dashes his way to the enemy carries because he has a windwall that blocks all of the adcs and mages shit and then has the shields which make him even harder to kill post ult.

A Yasuo that builds 100% crit and then full tank does no damage lmao get fucking good.

item 3046 item 3022 item 3111 item 3031 item 3072 item 3026

This is the typical Yasuo top lane build.

Whooooooooooa sooooooo tanky lmao.

-12% targeted damage reduction from item 3046 -Boots can be either item 3047 or item 3111 , offering either 12% reduced damage from AAs or reduced crowd control effectiveness -BT can be replaced by a Maw if going ninja tabi, and lifesteal isn't even required. item 3068 or item 3742 replaces BT if going Merc. --Additionally, keystone can be Grasp (effective lifesteal based on hp) or Warlord's (effective lifesteal based on hp%), though Fervor is also common to make up for damage lost by forgoing BT -Frozen Mallet's HP will give Yasuo near 3k hp which is on par with many tanks -Guardian Angel resistances top off resistances offered by other items, offering ~150 armor and magic resist, roughly

Yasuo's generic build from the games I have seen him in goes like this (I play AD top laners, so they go tabi) item 3046 item 3022 item 3047 item 3031 item 3156 item 3026

He's not building strictly tanky, however he's a powerful pseudo-tank with this build, being able to shrug off a fair amount of damage with %dmg reduction and then having resistances and HP to cover his bases, with a guardians angel in case he gets caught. This is incredibly toxic. The fact that he will still have 100% crit, will still have damage, will still be slippery, will still be a threat to your carries and to your tanks AND be able to survive a tower dive or being focused in teamfights, is toxic. He has all of his weaknesses covered by building tanky, while still being able to lay down serious damage. Blowing him up isn't an option and that was his one downside.

Lol Yasuo can't go tank if he builds 2 damage items, he'll be a squishy as Aatrox Lmao. He needs lifesteal in his build too, it's way too expensive to go tanky. If you do you aren't going tanky till 40 minutes.

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

Again, his double crit, P, Q, W, or E, are the issue it's his ulti's free armor penetration.

Due to it he gets a free LW which unlike crit you don't have to build armor penetration for more armor penetration. Plus the LW item sucks compared to a 700 hp, 30 AD, 40% slow on all attacks with 50% bonus armor penetration.

You can argue 2x crit is giving free items but nonetheless it still enforces building crit. But the armor penetration just won't work for free like it is now since you aren't building armor penetration for the armor penetration. They need to remove it and give yasuo other bonuses. Just hope that everyone realizes the hidden power that comes from it but I doubt it with how much the forums are torn over yasuo with ridiculously dumb ideas like making his crit 1.5x or making windwall cost flow.
