Just tried out Azir

He is really really fun late game! One thing I think is funny is his minion sand creatures can go in the enemies nexus spawn area and AA the people there. He seems good against splitpushers too.

hmm I like to ask is;

  1. How did you built him?
  2. Does he have long cooldown or high ap scaling?
  3. Does he have a real weakness like when ezreal used his e, he has no escape or when blitz used his q, he has no kill potential?
  4. Does he have a high skill cap like riven or yasuo?
  5. Is he hard to play like cassiopeia?

  1. I built the recommended items, kinda like a hybrid with Nashor's tooth and an Athene's and sorc shoes (he scales from AP)
  2. His AP scaling for W is surprisingly high. Cooldowns aren't that long late game.
  3. Not sure yet. He has 2 escapes (ult to push them away and w+e combo)
  4. Yes, high skill cap. Kinda like draven, lots of micro management.
  5. I guess he is pretty hard, he doesn't do burst damage I think though

Ty for answering but out of curiosity, can minion be summoned over wall and used the w+e combo.

Wasabo1 votes

Yup! You can also juke it. W over the wall, then they flash over wall, and you Q your minion to other wall (in jungle or wherever) and e over that

Interesting, I might buy him for his long learning curved. He remind me of orianna+j4.

I believe his weakness would be his complete reliance on the Sand Soldiers. Without them, he's probably a lot easier to take down unless he builds tanky.

I have a question; does his soldiers each apply an on-hit effect? What I'm wondering is, if you have two soldiers out on the field, and you have a sheen passive, do they both proc it on the same target? Cause that would be so broken...

Nope

So when a soldier attacks instead of you, it doesn't count as an auto? I was reading the PBE notes, it seems like their attack is separate from your own autos. Is this correct?

EDIT: Also, his soldiers don't count as minions/pets (since they aren't targetable) right? So Banner of Command doesn't work on them? Thanks!

When you summon a soldier, there is a little circle around it. Anything you right click inside the circle will stop your auto attack and have the soldier attack. Outside of the circle only you will attack. I was wondering if BoC works, idk yet

okay, thanks for your help!

I have two questions.

How tanky is he from base stats alone? What scaling is used to determine the damage done by his minions attacks?

Wasabo2 votes

His minions damage does AP scaling (magic damage I think). It's pretty darn high. The base damage is like, 170 (it's flat, only CD goes down leveling w, the cd is like heimer's turrets or corki's ult) the scaling was high. I had maybe 280 ap and it did 220 damage per AA. I didn't see how tanky he was, but I'm uploading a video and you can see there

Base Stats Damage: 43 (+ 2.8 per level) Health: 390 (+ 80 per level) Mana: 280 (+ 42 per level) Attack Speed: 0.625? (+1.5% per level) Movement Speed: 330 Armor: 14 (+ 3 per level) Magic Resist: 30 Health Per 5 Sec: 6 (+ 0.55 per level) Mana Per 5 Sec: 6.5 (+ 0.65 per level) Range: 525

Wow, that's actually not bad at all. This guy could have some promise up top lane.

Omnipherious1 votes

I see more potential as a solo in mid or as support. The range you can get from using W > AA is more beneficial in the shorter mid lane (safety and generally more favourable matchups) and pretty decent for zoning/harassing in a duo. Dragon control is another big factor that would pull him away from top.

A solo top is way riskier since base stats are on the low side but definitely can work since he does have reposition + shield and decent trading power from level 3 onwards. Doubt he'll work terribly well jungling.

redniwediS1 votes

All true, I was thinking of it from a split pushing perspective. Guess we'll have to see how well he can do in a gank.

Omnipherious1 votes

He can slow for 20% from decent range and combo with the dash for a mini-interupt. It takes the entire combo and assuming success, guarantees a medium amount of damage.

The bigger issue would be his durability. If he were to encounter a Lee/Kha'zix/Elise in the jungle, he would be hard pressed to put up a good fight.

redniwediS1 votes

Exactly my thinking. I'm actually starting to think he won't be the best mid. His roaming should be fine, but he doesn't seem to have a meaningful amount of burst.

Omnipherious1 votes

He's more AP marksman than a burst mage.

redniwediS1 votes

Right, but even ap Varus and Ez have burst. I'm not sure I've ever seen someone go mid who didn't have any burst, so I'm not sure how well that will do.
