Is there still a place for bursters in the Tank Meta?
I'm not here to complain about the tank meta. I like to switch things up as much as anyone else and am enjoying being able to play some champs I had not touched in a while (rammus ftw).
My main concern is I'm noticing that bursters (speaking primarily of AP bursting here) are becoming weaker. At first I thought they had a good chance to find a niche in the new meta because assassins had all been nerfed (mostly). Problem is now the enemy teams are full of tanks they can't burst and the few assassins left still turn them into jelly a lot of the time (looking at Fizz and Talon!).
It's very noticeable when looking at win rates, if only because the only mages that do well are the ones that are tank busters. Malzahar for example has been near the top for the last few months because of the innate synergy with Liandrys and his kit. By comparison Riot keeps taking burst mages and deciding they need to be less reliable and squishier. For example in the last few months they have reduced the armor/mr on annies fire shield, made veigars abilities all skill shots and delays, changed azir to not do enough damage without building for it (as compared to the original rod of ages type builds), and they got rid of viktors silence a long time ago as well as some of his reliability with his laser and ult.
TL;DR AP bursters have it tough right now and their own tanky qualities keep getting reduced while they have to fight numerous popular tanks who can't be bursted very easily.
Soooo... the question I pose to the community is simply this:
. If they build too much magic resist and you can't reach the squishies with better range and/or mobility, consider using your utility to protect the adc until an opening presents itself to destroy the adc, apc, or any other squishies.
should really help against that pain-in-the-ass sustain. If he builds tank, then... well at least the enemy team is lacking a proper APC. Considering lane-swapping with bot lane, especially if the adc has
