Shaco is an assassin so just give up if they're in our base

I just had a team mate refuse to fight as Shaco because they were in our base and there's "nothing he can do". Not only that, but someone backed him on it. Do you think it's ok if squishy assassins just refuse to leave the pedestal if all the enemies are clumped in your base?

Yeah. No point in dying for no reason. Unless you spot an opportunity to catch someone out, the chances of you jumping 3,4,5 people with cc and all, and getting away with a kill without dying is super low. Chances are, you'll get blown up before you take anyone to mid health.

He can still take out the squishy champ easily, target the adc and kill it. You may die but the damage dealer for them is down, mounting a possible come back.

Because him going in and dying would've made you completely understand and give him an "at least you tried."

Short answer, yes.

Long answer, he should still be harassing but a wrong step could cost him his life and whatever towers you have left. 1 Shaco is not going to divert a 5-man tower dive/push. What were your death timers at? Were you all coming up a within the next second? What was the situation?

Umm... why did you click "No" on the attempts to /ff?

That's probably the REAL reason he refused to leave the well. And it's a valid reason, too. I can't stand when the game is obviously over and one duo queue won't /ff.
