Doran Shield start on ADCS?

Why are people doing this?! You lack damage early against your opponent.

Because it's a stupid fucking strong item that basically gives you a near complete safe laning and nullifies said damage benefit from Sword? And gives you more sustain?

Who cares about the extra 7dmg when you can sustain through even a Zyra with mana regen runes :P.

I've seen it a couple times on opponents. I thought it would be terrible, but the shield actually made it really hard to pressure them in lane. I was playing Bard support, and even my combo Thunderlord's poke got healed back up quickly. The players running Doran's Shield happened to be fairly low-skill, and with the amount of poke I was landing on them I should have been able to force an early back or a quick kill. But nope, they just kept farming.

I dunno if that makes it a good choice, but it certainly worked well in the limited capacity I saw it in.

The sustain is strong for lane. Can't get forced to back unless you seriously misplay. Kinda like when high elo players and pros sometimes started long sword + 3 pots. Yes I know it also let them rush ghostblade but it was also for sustain that helped a lot vs laners like Zyra.

I have seen people win fairly decently with it but I have also punished peopleheavily when they take that, so I dunno about "can't get forced back". I wouldn't even say the people miss played in the times I have won against that.

the reason shield has never been a thing on ADs is because of the lack of last hitting power and now its close to on par with doran's blade.

I take it when I feel like its a lane I'm not going to be able to win anyway. Like if I'm Tristana into Draven; I'm not going to do as much damage as he does to me anyway so why even try? I can instead try to out scale him and not die.
