I need to know the when's, why's, how's and where's of freezing minion waves because it's confusing me. Should every lane do it? How do you do it? What's the purpose of it?

How: LINK

Why is because it keeps the wave where you are safe and your opponent is in danger. The risk is your opponent will leave and make a play elsewhere and you cannot leave without the wave pushing into your turret losing xp and gold if you follow. Also them having a larger wave means fighting is disadvantageous if you are not far ahead.

Leaving three enemy minion on your side

When the minion wave is near your turret but not quite in range, you make it so both sides have the same number of minions by killing any extras on the enemy side. Then you only last hit so that you don't push it any more. When the minion are even they will stay in the same area for a very long time until the equilibrium is broken. So that lets you farm in a safe spot for a while and makes it hard for the enemy to farm that lane without risking a gank.

Freezing a wave means you're keeping the enemy wave balanced with your wave, preferably in that small area between your tower and the river. You match the number of creeps your opponent kills so the waves are even and can't push. They're FROZEN in place, so to speak.

Why to do it: The are multiple reasons to freeze a lane. 1.) You force the enemy to overextend past the river in order to last-hit minions. This is great for coordinating ganks. 2.) It keeps you safe from getting ganked, since youre right next to your tower. 3.) You can start a slow push, causing multiple waves of your own creeps to build up in which you can use to out-trade via minion aggro or simply hardpush & crash into enemy tower. "Slow pushing" means only last hitting minions. Hard pushing is auto-attacking minions as much as possible, even using your abilities if you really need to. Freezing a wave won't last forever, so do it as long as you can, then slow push to stack waves. Once you're back to the middle of the lane then start hard pushing to out-push your opponent and crash your wave into the tower, causing your opponent to lose CS. The benefit of managing you wave is that not many people in low elos understand it and just constantly try to outpush you.

How to do it: Count the number of creeps in your wave and your opponents. As your opponent pushes, you want to match the number of creeps so you dont have a huge enemy minion wave crashing into your tower. The goal is to get the waves to meet in that small area between your tower & river, remember? So you need your opponent to be able to push her wave toward you, slowly. For example, you both have minions meeting in the middle of the map. Every time she kills one, you kill one, until she has 3 or 4 minions left. Dont kill them, because they're needed to stall your own wave from pushing back to the middle of the lane. Does that make sense? If they die, the waves reset in the middle of the lane and your freeze fails.

Its a great strategy for every lane, but remember that there are times that your team NEEDS you to pressure your lane. If you don't have lane pressure then your opponent is free to roam, the enemy jungler won't need to gank you (consequently camping your teammates instead), and you won't be able to recall without losing cs to your tower. If you want to recall, the best strat is to hardpush your wave into the enemy tower to reset the waves in the middle of the lane.

Feel free to ask any questions, i also don't mind if you add me and i could show you in-game.
