Rant On Why Crit Should Not Exist In League of Legends

Hello fellow Summoners. Today I want to rant about why crit should not exist in League of Legends. I will go over some points and have evidence to why something is not true or true.

Firstly, let's start with discussing what critical strike brings to the table for a game: It's a mechanic that allows for a random chance to occur for low mechanical games such as WOW and DnD. There isn't much mechanical skill in these games. So critical strike comes along and fixes the issues between battles. Because clicking each other all day, or saying "I attack X" isn't that fun. When there is some chance, that makes it more fun. The problem with it being in League of Legends is that nowadays the Champions aren't interactive and it feels like you're actually able to do more than just click. You can dodge, etc. Back in the old days it might have been good to have critical strike in League of Legends, but now it's not good at all.

Now, let's look at the argument I see whenever someone brings up crit.

"Without that random chance a team behind won't be able to win"

MAYBE if we went back before seasons. But now this game does NOT need that "random chance" to win a game if you're behind. As I said my evidence:

We can see in the SHRC VS OMG game in the semifinals Game 3:

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/TRLH1/1000380095?gameHash=81903db00dad8001

You can see that they played this very well and came back from 9k gold down. Due to their comp and outplaying their enemy. That's the best thing about League of Legends: Every champ brings out something different so you can make killer comebacks even without critical stirke.

It's an unneeded and outdated mechanic.

Also realize, it's ruining the AD itemization.

Thanks for reading.

It keep things interesting. Otherwise, every ADC would just have 3 LS items.

No, it doesn't. They can implant a new thing in items for Auto Attacks only.

Your giant post didnt **say **anything.... other than its old cuz DnD had it so we shouldnt..... and NO ONE says crit is needed to come back.........because the winning team will have more crit.........

Except I said that I've seen people say that. So clearly you're wrong about that. Also, no that's not what it is saying at all. I'm comparing 2 games (League of Legends and WoW/DnD) to why one DOESN'T need crit and why one does.

"Except I said that I've seen people say that."

You may have seen people say it, but if so, then you should know that is is a really rare argument. I've never seen anyone float that idea around. In fact, the opposite is usually said. Crit is a damage multiplier, so it gives the guy who's ahead a massive amount of increased damage over the guy who is behind. It looks a lot more like a strawman argument than anything commonly thought. I just wouldn't bring that up as an argument that people in favor of crit use.

The only reason you said we dont need crit is because the game is already fun and interactive and thus doesnt need more fun (nothing more fun than critting someone for 2k damage and 1 shotting them).

Thats a horrible reason...

Fun for the person critting sure, fun for anyone else? No. Getting outplayed by RNG is not fun.

Crit is actually very far from RNG. Sure, the first one could be considered RNG, but after that the game calculates it in such a way that you pretty much crit the percentage of the time you should. It does this by raising the chance if you miss one or lowering the chance afterwards to prevent most lucky crit streaks.

Just play an adc. Boom you can crit now.

I dont see the problem it doesnt add alot of damage and it isnt THAT rng based as 50 percent is quite alot. If it was imbalanced youd see one adc do 200k damage cuz every single attack crit and the other one do 20k cuz not a singke attack crit the whole game. But since both adcs get crit it pretty much balances it self out whike still remaining fun.

Chance creates risk, and risk affects decision making. For example, if you are a tank and you are preparing to initiate, knowing that the enemy ADC will drop you in 20 auto attacks is very different from knowing the enemy ADC will drop you in 10-30 auto attacks, despite the average number of attacks it would take to kill you being the same.

Losing an encounter because someone crit is not "getting outplayed by RNG." It's incorrectly assessing the risk involved in an encounter and losing the encounter because of it.

Agree, RNG, especially with such impact, are very bad for a copetive PvP. In a PvE game, crit is a total different thing, as there is no player on the reciving end, and all u have to do is see if it is fun to crit. U also usually have a higher samplesize on the usuall crit hass, so the RNGhas less overall impact. In LOL, u have to consider the reciving end, and getting killed by RNGcrits is a increadible bad experience. U also have a rather small samplesize, as many trades, especially vs 2 DDs, only last for a few AAs, so RNG has huge impact and critluck often is the main factor for winning or loosing a trade between adc(or winning a clash...).

There is no good reason to keep it in the long run. There are serveral options to replace it with other mechanics that increase ur AAdamage without rng posted in all the different threats about crit. Big changes to crit would have huge impact on the current balance, so the change needs to be done carefully with enough testing, which means u need a preseason for a change of that scale. The scope for the current preseason is already filled i gues, so the soonest crit can and should be reworked is preseason 6(if somehow possible, rather sooner)

Except crits are not RNG. They are pseudo random. The game calculates it in such a way that it makes you crit at the percentage you should and removes lucky crit streals. if you only have 25% crit chance and you go in for a quick trade of 4 auto attacks in almost every since engagement you do that lasts that long you will get 1 crit and 3 non crits.

crit works with an alogrythem that helps avoiding critstreaks/no-critstreaks, but in the end of the day it still is RNG. All it does is giving u a low default critchance that increases every attack and resets on crit. That means right after ur crit, ur chances to crit again are compareble low, and after a couple of no-crits it'S compareable high. Hovever, at each hit it is clculated by RNG. Even if ur default critchance is below 1%, there is still the posibillity to crit 2 times in a row. even though u get higher chance if u don'T crit, having badluck on multiple hits in a roe IS POSSIBLE The game provided enough evidence for cases with 2-4 crits in 4 hits with 25% chance, aswell as for 0crits in those 4 hits...

long things short: pseudo random just changes the chances for every hit(evens out at~actual critchance on bigger sample), but the chance stays RNG based.

p.s. RNG means Random Number Generator, which is used to simultae chances. it's done case by case and doesn'T care about previous results. The chance may change each hit, but the way the chance is 'calculated' stays the same.
