Minions should agro off of spells, just like auto attacks.

I belive this simple change would fix top lane. There is no reason why Ryze should be able to pull off a full rotation of spells without having to worry about any minions.

It would only put ranged AP tops on a fair playing field like everyone else.

Ryze is Riot's CEO; the scroll on his back contains the password to Riot's bank account.

They can't nerf him.

yeah I think that would be a good thing,it always seemed weird that spells don't cause any aggro

Believe me this would hurt melees more.

It would make mid lane a nightmare for the typical hyper-squishy mage that generally calls it home.

This would be a bad thing...A mega buff to ranged champions...

I think damage above a certain thresh hold should proc minion aggro such as maybe if a target takes 26 (+1 per level) magic damage or are basic attacked by an enemy champion the minions aggro'd. This is so Sunfire Cape and other magic damage of such sorts doesn't aggro minions.

make it only directly targeted abilities. Having it happen on indirectly targeted (and therefore reasonably dodgeable) abilities would probably be pretty lame collateral damage for other lanes/champs, especially since most melees are reliant on indirectly-targeted abilities for their own poke (especially versus ranged champs). Most abusive ranged vs melee issues in lane arise from ranged directly-targeted abilities and attacks (against which melees can't utilize the only counterplay direct-targeting has, "stay out of range"), and melee directly-targeted abilities are generally combo'd with autos and would draw aggro anyway.

There might be some indirect abilities that should get aggro-drawing treatment as well (Glitterlance, for example, as its speed and hitbox and minion-piercing ability renders it very difficult to dodge; or possibly Morde's E since it's effectively undodgeable through the victim's efforts due to instant travel time), but initially at least just the directly-targeted ones should get the aggro-drawing treatment.

It'd also help if minion aggro calls were increased in range if the source attack of the call-for-help was ranged, as currently ranged champs can even auto-attack while only provoking calls from a few (or even no) minions due to their faraway positioning from the wave, while a single melee attack will generally provoke calls from every minion in a wave since the melee will be forced to be closer to said wave.

Melees tend to walk inside the minion lines more often than ranged champions, therefore they will more often take aggro from all 6 minions. You'll be zoning and outtrading yourself every time you wanna poke with a spell (Aatrox E for instance). Ranged champions mostly have to deal with caster minions and are often positioned better to walk out of aggro range (so less damage taken).

Next to that, this also completely fucks up all Melee vs. Melee matchups where AA based Melees no longer get that early game trading disadvantage. Caster Melees will draw just as much aggro.

Additionally, can you imagine the bullshit of Talon getting minion aggro for poking with Rake? Or Rumble getting minion aggro because he accidentally got 1 tick of flame spitter off on you? I think its easier and more holistically viable to just nerf Ryze.
