Shen's ult could scale arrival time rather than HP

Basically, Shen arrives faster if he ults a low HP ally, and arrives slowly when used on a full HP ally. Possibly adjusting even as the target takes damage.

Currently, Riot is looking at nerfing the shield value and scaling it on missing HP. But this won't curtail his ult offensively because he's going to a location for his cc/damage anyway. Instead, this change would slow his arrival when used offensively and allow Shens better chances of making savior plays.

Notably, countering his ult by ccing him is also affected by this change.

This actually sounds really neat, It would be a blast to have an ally at low hp and then BAM, ninja in your face.

A full hp tp being like 8-10 seconds to balance that out does not seem so bad, it would stop the tower diving kill plays that are the reason hes getting Nerf'ed.

As long as there's an indicator for how long the channel is gonna take on the target, this sounds good.

But doesn't this mean the person getting a larger shield will be able to also be more aggressive? Shen's ult would remain the same while still emphasizing the damage output if played right.

That doesn't solve the problem they're looking to fix. Pro play has Shen using his Ult offensively anyways, so that he can be there at the start of the fight when Splitting. All this does is allow Shen to get their even faster for his impact to matter. They're pushing it to be more defensive, not offensive.

I don't understand why Riot makes such a big deal out of Shen's ult. You can interrupt him while he's channeling it and completely deny him (and the ability goes on full cooldown), and you can damage him/kill him while he's channeling it. By the time he actually reaches his ally he's taken a lot of damage if his enemy laner is smart. So much for tower diving when you're at half hp. Shen has ONE THING that he's supposed to be good at. Let him be good at it. I can list at least a dozen other top laners/melee champions better than him.

This is the best idea ever. Might need some tuning to increase the shield stats a bit because they're a bit lackluster at the stages of the game he has them at. 850 HP shield late game might seem like a lot, but that's like two ADC autos.

I think this would be a cool way to balance pro vs. soloqueue.

There's a different problem that might crop up though: What if they start using it like a locket shield and since the channel duration is so long they just cancel the tp themselves during the dive after using the shield so that they don't have to use their TP summoner to get back top lane?

He can still cancel the channel himself right? I can't check in practice mode right now.


Edit: The arrival time should be locked as soon as he clicks it like Galio's ult placement. Otherwise the counterplay of 'blow them up before Shen gets here' is gone.

I think this is the perfect idea to balance shen ult for comp vs soloq. Now all they have to do is BUFF Q for god's sake. It's so bad early and riot's only making it worse with the current PBE changes.
