THIS IS HOW PROVISIONALS WORK

If it's you or your ranked team's first time playing ranked, you start at 0 MMR. During your first 10 games, (provisionals) you get MMR (exact number of MMR varies) for each win and lose MMR for each lose. At the end of this era of time, you will be given a rank corresponding to your current MMR.

I say this because i often see people who do their provisionals for the first time and say something along the lines of "I win 7/9 of my games!!! I bet i'll get gold 1!" "Man my ranked team finished provisionals and got bronze 1. Gonna disband and keep tryin till we get gold." "Can you play my first 10 ranked games? If i win all 10 games i will instantly get into plat 1"

Then i tell them that the highest a person can get after their provisionals starting at 0 MMR is about silver 3 (probably higher, never seen it) Then they say "No Uberdanger finished his provisionals and got plat 1!" Then i have to go through the trouble of explaining that you start at 0 MMR and the reason why Uberdanger got plat 1 is because his MMR from last season was diamond and after provisionals, if you have diamond mmr you will get plat (because plat1 is the highest rank you can get from provisionals)

Common sense guys. If everyone starts with 0 mmr for provisional, then every time the season resets, your provisionals will have a chance of having 3 diamonds and 2 plats vs 5 bronze.

People should check the support pages or google their issues more often.

No, I finished my first provisionals in gold 5. I don't know what the cap is but you can start in gold.

"the highest a person can get after their provisionals starting at 0 MMR is about silver 3 (probably higher, never seen it)" if you give me proof you got it after starting at 0 mmr ill believe you and stop telling people the highest is silver 3

this isnt entirely accurate. Went 7-3 on my fresh 30 smurf and got silver 1.

"the highest a person can get after their provisionals starting at 0 MMR is about silver 3 (probably higher, never seen it)" can you read the entire thing

you may bold these words, but it implies that it should be at least close. Imagine if I had gone 10-0. At very least gold II.

the word probably does not imply that it is close. it implies that there is a chance it can be higher. the only thing i truely stated is that i've never seen someone get higher than silver 3

this was also for RANKED 5s

That isn't how it works exactly. You don't start at 0, you start at some predetermined number and placements adjust you from there depending on the mmr of the games you played during your placements. I trolled one of my alt accounts. Fresh lvl 30, 7 losses 3 wins(Those folks carried too hard for me to lose), placed in Silver 5.

you started at 0 mmr i've already tested this once before. once my friend got to fresh level 30 (i dont smurf i respect community :3) i checked his mmr on op.gg and lolking before his first ranked game. it was 0. after a win it went up (i dont remember exact number) stop trolling low elos the reason, for your situation (im guessing) is that you lost games which led to you being a negative elo (surprisingly, yes it's possible) and went against higher elo. after winning against them it gains you a huge boost of mmr. (assuming you... lost 7 then won 3) and it happened to be enough for silver 5. i dont know exact numbers for mmr +/- but that's my guess im also guessing you're saying the truth

The websites don't actually have access to MMR with the Riot API. They use their own code to estimate MMR, and they only use ranked matches to calculate that. If they have no ranked matches, then it shows 0 as default. It doesn't actually mean they have 0 MMR.

The best I can get for you is "Our data comes directly from Riot's servers" - stated in lolking's FAQ as well. i dont have time rn to find the link but i remember searching it a while ago

lolking doesn't even show MMR. It shows you "lolking score" which is similar to MMR, but based on their own algorithm. To quote, it says

LolKing Score (LKS) A performance indicator created by LolKing using various data about a particular summoner.

In op.gg, it says

This service estimates your MMR by using OP.GG's algorithm that compares and analyzes the tier information of the summoners you have been matched with.

To further prove my point, for "Soeren" (Bjergsen), LolKing Score is 2411, while op.gg says his MMR is 2138.

misread city, oopsie. yea you're right i got lolking score confused [again]

If they have no ranked matches, then it shows 0 as default. It doesn't actually mean they have 0 MMR.

if they have no ranked matches they have 0 mmr as default they dont get free mmr for queueing up or something. do you mean no ranked matches this season? if there is no ranked matches this season, a calculated mmr is still given.
