Why Are People Still Building Tank Yi After the Nerfs?
Why are Master Yi players still building
even though the nerfs forces him to build more damage?
Why are Master Yi players still building
even though the nerfs forces him to build more damage?
Because people don't read nerfs
It's still viable, it now just has a meaningful trade-off vs. heavy damage builds.
This.
Even if Tank Yi got nerfed, Tank Yi is still far more reliable than glass cannon Yi.
Yi has true damage and sated+guinsoo's. He's going to do damage whether he builds tank or not after that, so why not build tank?
He doesn't need all of his current damage potential to kill priority targets, so why reach his potential when you can be a tank and still kill them?
Even Cowsep said that it didnt affect him that much and that tank Yi is still viable
Because they didn't work, he still does enough damage to function so it's better to be tanky and do damage then be squishy and do a lot of damage.
The items are the problems
It doesn't force him to build more damage at all. He just deals less of it. The only way to kill these tank builds is to make the champion unplayable or nerf the items to shit. Or rework them so that they can actually go damage and not get CC'ed and die in 2 seconds or less.
tbh if you already got
already it's sufficient AD to compensate for the most part.
Not to mention Tank Yi just wants to abuse
and Fervor for damage anyway.
Thanks for all the responses, now you'll excuse me...I'm going to play some Tank Yi
Ayy what a surprise. Nerfing specific champions doesn't make broken items less strong.
Presenting my fix.

80 Ability Power
Unique Passive: Basic attacks grant 1 stack on attack. Stacks grant +8% Attack Speed and +8 Ability Power per stack, up to a maximum of 8. At 8 stacks, gain Guinsoo's Rage.
Unique -- Guinsoo's Rage: Deal 20 (+10% AP) magic damage on hit to the target and all enemies within 350 range of the target.
It fixes the abuse cases, while keeping it strong for the champions that need it to be effective.
-- Useless. Since Master Yi builds no AP unless he builds this item, the stats this item provides aren't worth the item slot or the item's cost any more. It grants 32% Attack Speed, 48 extra healing on his Meditate, and 7 damage on hit for 2725g.
gives him more attack speed (40%), a lot more on hit damage (40), as well as a magic shred to help his team and magic resistance for himself, for 75g more.
-- Useless. Xin Zhao, like Master Yi, builds no AP other than this item. The stats are eclipsed by other items, much like Wit's End now eclipses Guinsoo's on Master Yi. This item now gives Xin 48 extra damage on his E, 32 health per 3 hits, 32% Attack Speed, and 7 on-hit damage for 2725g.
is going to be stronger for Xin than Guinsoo's, providing him more healing (once the lifesteal, extra attack speed, and AD scaling on W are factored in), more attack speed, and in almost all cases a more potent on-hit effect.
-- Useless. Tryndamere's case is almost exactly identical to Xin's. He'll prefer
over Guinsoo's in its new incarnation.
-- Stronger than before. The removal of the AD and replacement with AP fits Kayle's AP-based kit a lot more. Since Kayle builds AP, the on-hit Guinsoo's Rage will be stronger with the increased AP ratio. With the extra AP, her heal, Q, Nashor's Tooth on-hit, and E all scale up. Since Kayle isn't super played, even with Guinsoo's in its current state and her being a perfect case for it, a buff won't make her overbearing and crowd out other picks in the top lane.
-- Nerfed, but still effective. Jax has abilities that scale with AP, and when Jax ults, his magic resist is increased by a factor of his AP. He'll lose total damage after all factors are accounted for, and he'll lose Armor but gain Magic Resist, making him weaker to assassins and marksmen but stronger against mages.
-- Still strong. Kog'maw's abilities and W on-hit scale off AP, so the new all-AP Guinsoo's is still effective in Kog'maw's hands with his doubled attack speed and ridiculous on-hit potential.
-- Greatly buffed and may become the next strong
user. Diana's kit scales off AP, but her passive encourages building of attack speed and gives her a lot of extra damage for building it. With
she'll drop her 3 hits to win passive down to 2 hits to win, get Guinsoo's going, and deal a lot of damage with her auto attacks (at the expense of her ability damage because she doesn't have
). However, DIana's early clears are weaker than Yi/Xin and so she can be stopped or slowed down a lot easier than the others (plus Diana needs three items to reach that fantasy where Yi/Xin only need two).
A case could be made for jungle Ekko to start building sated rageblade, but that's the only other champion who has a reason to build it.

kind of miss the point that it's supposed to be a hybrid damage item
because going tanky is still better than beeing a glass cannon, atleast in higher elos. And his on-hit synergie is high enough that sated+guinsoos would work out even if his E was removed...
I watched a challenger game and they still built items like that, so that's likely still the best way to build him in at least some situations.
- is an ADC item. It gives decent AD, Armor Pen, Magic resist and awesome lifegrip passive.
- For damage output, yi is all about moving and stacking. It is the only defensive item i get on Yi.
- Not useful on Yi. Prob trolls or haven't read how he doesn't benefit from it.
If Yi builds tanky items, his true damage is reduced reasonably. That said
does % health as damage so I can see how it helps.
is just adding health and base damage which will compliment it ( both don't stack). It takes a bit more time to kill, so no more 2-3 hit death. A sensible ADC with
should be able to kill him.
