I'm so confused on how LP works >.<

Is there a formula to calculate LP per game?

I feel like, when I lose a game, I lose 12-19 LP. But when I win a game, I gain 20-24 LP.

What I don't understand is, the last loss, I lost 18 LP. And I had a pretty bad game.

But I just won a game, and gained 20 LP. I'm a Support main.

  • I got an S.
  • KDA: 4-0-28 (Normally, I try not to get kills, but I just happened to last hit while defending myself. Ekko kept targeting me pretty hard)
  • OP.GG said I got MVP of that game (which I know doesn't really mean anything, but it's still fun to see)
  • I placed 9 Control Wards (enemy Support placed 5)
  • I placed 35 regular Wards (enemy Support placed 15)
  • I was only able to kill 2 Wards, normally I try to kill more than that (Enemy Supp killed 7)

I mean... obviously, I didn't have the most damage to champs or turrets, or most gold - but that's because I'm building Support items. I'm focusing turrets, but I don't do any damage to them.

But I feel like 20 LP is really low. Especially when I played a different game and got 24 LP, and I feel like that 24 LP game was like a B+ performance.

I just don't understand. Is there something in the algorithm that's giving me less LP?

LP is calculated based on your matchmaking rating, your team's average matchmaking rating, and the enemy team's average matchmaking rating.

Probably, but we don't know it.

Probably a losing record? I dunno.

Don't dwell on it. Just win more than you lose, and do whatever you can to perform in each game. Play to get better.

So the League system is a modification of a MMR system which is a modification of Elo. Basically the tiers and divisions cover up the hidden MMR. They are not as accurate as just MMR. Some pros and cons to it.

Your LP is going to go up more if your MMR is higher and you lose less. The bigger the gap of your MMR to current division the higher your LP gains go and less a loss will set you back, eventually if your MMR is high enough you will skip divisions to catch up. The inverse is true for if your mmr is low and going down the ladder. Here are some links, The Old post on why Riot likes League system over a pure MMR/Elo Also you can Check out Riots Faq

If your curious about MMR I made a long ass post on it some time ago you may want to check out. Far as I know everything is accurate, Walls and walls of text, your welcome?
