I always assumed that tethers worked as DoTs and since you aren't targetting them since you already were targetting them, they would still go through.

Tethers like the drain and Karma's W are only supposed to do damage while they are connected. They do operate as dots though, so its probably just a coding mix up...like when everything is minions and that messes stuff up lol.

Dots still do damage to fiora during her ult, but since Fiddle would be able to cast other spells (which he can't do during his drain) his tether should not continue to do damage to fiora.

Aren't tethers just attached DoTs? If he targets her before hand, shouldn't it go through?

Swain's does, and should. Karma's i know for a fact does not since the ult breaks the tether. This is also true if you just walk out of range of Karma. The W will stop doing damage. If Fid starts the tether on me while i stand next to him, then he stops casting it will it still do damage to me? I do not believe so. Likewise if fiora's ult essentially stops the casting of the drain then the damage should stop as well.

The reason why swain's bird still does damage is because the bird was just the animation choice for the damage, you can't actually walk out of range or stop the damage once its been cast. It works just like the dot on his E.

These are my understandings of how the mechanics work.

As someone who plays a bit of swain i can tell you that his slow is a tether that you can walk out of and only be harmed by 2 ticks of dmg but the tether is medium in range(shorter than drain and i think shorter than karmas). However that is irrelevant because this post is about fio and her ult which, like vlads pool and Elise's rappel, make her untargetable not invincible(ie. zhonyas and fizz's playful/trickster). This means that anything damage-wise that will continually apply itself to an untargetable champ such as a tether should deal damage as long as no special conditions are met, like moving out of its range.

Perhaps you are right, but i do not see why becoming untagetable would not break a tether. I agree that dots and things that no longer require any input from the attacking champion after they are cast (poisons, ignite, etc.) should continue to do damage during Fiora's ult. I do not think it makes sense that a tether such as Fiddle's, which requires continued input from him, should damage champions who have gone untagetable.

Coding wise, I understand it (I think), thematically, yeah, it makes no sense.

Lol. when did league become thematically sensible? Annie has a shadowbear(made of fire wut?) that she boundto the form of a teddy bear... but i answered the thematic question somewhat in my response to Killer

I meant more so thematically in a sense of the drain still targetting as she randomly jumps from place to place being in impossible, but I guess magic? idk.

it was said earlier that a tether was an attached DOT and this is basically the entire concept, a DOT that requires not only the input of the action but also a constant condition that must be met for its continuation whether the condition(s) are a certain range or the cessation of most other inputs. Even thematically, during untargetable abilities the one who is untagetable isn't invincible but nearly impossible to touch, whether its Fiora moving so fast you don't know whats going on(blade waltz) or Elise climbing skyhigh into the above foliag and hiding(rappel). However you could make the argument that Fizz's invincibility should be changed to an untargetable condition.

Meph, whatever, you are probably right.

Wait what? Your last bit there confused me. If Fiddle cast his drain on Fiora before she went untargetable, and she stayed within tether range of Fiddle's drain during her ult (most likely because her ult was hitting fiddle only) then the tether shouldn't break.

IF fiddle can drain through zhonya, then it would be "anyonewhobuyszhonya: omg we lost this fkin bug let fiddle drain me when I use zhonya" id bet must test now
