What if we gave Ornn's W a moderate flat-damage ap ratio?

Something like 0.3-0.7? It would probably hardly matter, but it would make it feel better to get things like doran's ring, Liandry's, or maybe even Rylai's.

It wouldn't be enough to push him as a potential full-on ap bruiser (like Malphite, Maokai, and Zac can sorta do) but it would allow him more flexibility in itemization.

I was just thinking about this today. Because while I wanted to build a Doran's ring it kind of felt like a waste of gold. But what do you think about Ornn getting a small heal if he E's his own Q pillar? I think it would provide him with a little bit more sustain in the tank meta. Seeing as how most top laners have some sort of heal built into their kitsOrnn

I've only played 1 pvp game with him, so I'm far from an authority, but between his W, Grasp, Perseverance, a four-pot start (corrupting potion looks great until you realize that the whole reason he wants sustain in the first place is to avoid backing) hp sustain honestly feels fine.

I totally get why they don't want to have his %hp damage on his w scale, but adding a flat ratio feels completely appropriate.

As it is, he feels an awful lot like Sion if Sion's e didn't have the minion interaction, his Q had another half as much a cooldown, and his W had it's damage split between a dot and a small chunk at the end.

You have a good point there. I think his main issues lie within mana but there is a reason for that. He does play alot like sion and I enjoy playing Sion alot lol. He has kill potential in lane but it's not brain dead kill potential that someone like idk Master Yi has. The only thing that keeps Ornn from purely beating people out of lane is his high mana costs. Maybe he is fine the way he is. There is an exceptional learning curve to him which I will enjoy traveling!

True. I've been experimenting with wonky builds, and my most recent gimmick was stacking some ad for the Q ratio.

Tiamat felt about as crap as you might expect, but bilgewater cutlass felt surprisingly good: The ad helped Q, auto trading (obviously), and last hitting; the lifesteal basically eliminated hp sustain problems as long as there weren't enemies with immediate kill pressure, and when I turned it into botrk it felt like it was a useful bump to his dueling power.

On the other hand, my team was destroying the enemy team and I was jungling, so there wasn't a lot of room for me to fail. But it was interesting for sure.

Hmm Botrk sounds like it could work really well. I played a game today where instead of rushing Sunfire I rushed a catalyst. I was surprised how much power it gives him, I was able to outduel an Ornn with a Bami's with just a catalyst. Might have to try Catalyst and Cutlass.....
