it would be nice if people were less hostile to different play styles

Can you blame them? Riot basically enforces playing the game a certain way, from picking specific roles and item builds, to zero real support of any game mode apart from Summoner's Rift. We don't even get to mess around with custom modes in LoL. Those are the kinds of environments where experimenting is generally done. Since we don't have the above, going into normals is the only alternative, and people are hardly less tolerant there, especially as your MMR increases. People expect you to pick something that can win games, as if its ranked.

Don't get mad at the players, blame the source. The players wouldn't be this way if it wasn't for Riot wanting us to play the game the way they want us to play it.

Nope, if they are flaming you and you say anything back you will get band after band after bans don’t EVER respond to people talking shit, because then they will report you and even if you weren’t toxic you will get banned, riots ban system is garbage and you need to compensate for it

Augment Janna doesn't even sound bad...

Anywho, the reality is it's not the different play styles to be blamed but the stupid rigidity of the average player.

So I believe the challenge here is people’s faith in the M.E.T.A: Most Effective Tactics Available. Alternate builds work, but people really prefer seeing something that works more CONSISTENTLY. Because consistency and ease of performing well are the two greatest factor for climbing in ranked.

So if they see something that statistically is riskier to their elo, they react negatively. Because winning, not how you win, is what their after.

Kinda boring, I love off-Meta builds like full AP sivir or Skarner, but it is hard to enforce my way of playing on others.

I’m actually writing an article about items and Off Meta builds. Planning to release it at the start of next year, when Riot might have a bit more lee way in what they can table, though that’s offly hopeful of me.

I mean I played a game of Tank Nidalee top and my team was like, "good job nid" so idk. Then again whenever I build bruiser Wukong I get flamed to hell so maybe you're on to something.

So the problem is that human beings like to blame something when things go wrong, and things they don't understand are easy sources of blame. So if you play something they don't understand.... you're basically giving them an 'easy out' to avoid introspection on why they lost.

This obviously doesn't justify it, and people shouldn't be assholes just 'cause they can... but... well, that's the reality of the world. People don't want to face the parts of their problems that are their fault, so they seek solace in blaming other people.

It's also a little different of your 'unique playstyle' changes the role people expect for your character. In that case, people may have made their picks because they thought your role was going to be one thing... then you change that and the team comp is suddenly imbalanced(ex. if you play AD Sion, they likely assumed they'd have a tank and picked accordingly). In that sort of case, if you fail to communicate your intent beforehand, the end result IS partially your fault because not communicating the fact that you're doing something out of the ordinary when it affects team comp is poor teamwork.

Honestly it seems like the biggest problem you're having here is your perspective on it all... Nobody will ever stop you from having fun (especially when you're doing well) unless you let them by letting them make you feel bad about it. I've got alot of friends who rage when they game and I've never understood it. All I know is I am ALWAYS having more fun than them because I never let silly things screw with my head. If they want to bug you, pick at them too. Give some witty remarks back at them. The hilarious conversations you can have sometimes are even more fun than playing the game when you can beat back the haters

This is what riot gets when they enforce the exact same game, team comp, roles and champions every single game.
