Gonna Get Hate For This, But i Don't Like Kayle's New Kit.
So enough people voiced their discontent with Kayle's appearance for her to get changed, and that makes me happy since I was in that group of people.
What's much less likely to change though is her abilities, and that's the area people seem to have less of a problem with. Personally, I'm not a fan of some of what they've done to her. I know that other people like her new kit, and that it's definitely not necessary to make sweeping changes for the satisfaction of the few. Still though, I'd like to throw in my two cents and ideas. She is a champion I love, after all, and sadly if she goes through as is I feel like my dissatisfaction with some of her kit would make me drop her. That's alright though, she doesn't need to change just for me. I just want to put my ideas out there and see if people other than me share my feelings.
Below is my personal critique of her skills, and humble suggestions for what I'd personally like to see.
Passive: Divine Ascent Honestly, I like the idea behind this skill. Having Kayle evolve over the course of the game is a really neat idea, and is tied nicely to her visuals. What I don't like is the execution of the skill. It really comes down to my personal preference for simplistic skills, but I don't like how huge this skill feels. Imo it's too overloaded, and could be streamlined while keeping the general idea of it in tact. I also am very unhappy to hear that Kayle doesn't get to start off the game as a partially ranged champion. That was, afterall, a huge part of her appeal, and I can see it having the same effect to a portion of her existing playerbase as delaying Eve's camouflage did. I'm sure other Kayle players out there would agree that yes, she should have to transition into a fully ranged carry over the course of the game, but not giving her her core mechanic of becoming ranged until level 11 at least to me feels really bad.
Q: Radiant Blast I don't like what they've done with this skill. To my understanding from reading the description, it's a targeted skill that detonates to deal aoe magic damage that slows and shreds resistances. As far as I can tell, this is just her old boring Q, but just made stronger and bloated. It still feels sort of bland to me, but there's just more slapped on it it now. I would like to see this skill changed.
W: Celestial Blessing I actually really like this skill. Having it castable on two targets is an just an upgrade to the existing skill, but so long as it's balanced I think it was a good direction to take the ability in.
E: Starfire Spellblade This is definitely the skill I have the most issue with. The passive part is fine, but the active feels so boring to me. It's just another targeted damage spell, that ascends to being AOE. It's like a better Jax W, and I think it's really uninteresting. If any skill of hers got changed, I'd hope it would be this one.
R: Divine Judgement As far as I know at the moment, this is another skill that is mostly just an upgrade to an existing skill, although I understand that it now has a mana cost, and likely has reduced duration and or an increased cooldown. But the thing is, that's fine! Giving it an aoe retaliation makes the skill far more interesting, and I like it a lot. Might do too much damage, but hey, it can be balanced.
So now that I've explained myself, and my problems with Kayle's new skill-set, I'd like to post my own version that includes the themes of her actual reworked kit, but solves some of the issues I have with her. It's fine if others don't like my changes, I'm not saying my version is objectively better, and am mostly doing this for me, but if you do prefer this version, or share in my dissatisfaction with her kit, I would appreciate a comment or an upvote. Below is my suggestion
Passive: Divine Ascent
Kayle ascends through 4 forms as she levels up, increasing the effects of her attacks
Level 1: Zealous - 1.5 seconds after casting an ability, Kayle gains increased attack range for 6 seconds, refreshing when she casts an ability. The duration of this buff stacks up to 10 seconds.
Level 6: Aflame - Kayle's attacks deal bonus magic damage based on her bonus AD and AP
Level 11: Arisen - Kayle is permanently ranged.
Level 16: Transcendent - Aflame's damage is converted into true damage.
Q: Purging Flame Kayle deals magic damage to enemies in an arc in front of her an a line, leaving a flaming area that deals ongoing magic damage to enemies inside of it, reducing their movement speed and resistances.
W: Celestial Blessing Kayle heals herself and an allied champion, increasing their movement speed briefly.
E: Exalted Blade Kayle gains increased attack speed for 10 seconds. During this time, her attacks launch a wave of fire in a cone facing her target, dealing magic damage to all enemies hit, including her target. When Kayle is Transcendent, this damage is converted into true damage.
R: Divine Judgement Kayle makes a target briefly invulnerable, and then rains swords from the sky around their location to deal heavy magic damage.
One issue I see with Kayle is her kit being overloaded, so I tried to maybe make it more fair by essentially removing her E and instead moving a portion of her overloaded passive to it, which imo still makes E a more interesting ability to me. I kept her W and R the same, and made her Q a skillshot since it seems pretty strong for a point and click.
I know that these changes would never happen, but like I did with Eve who used to be my main before the rework, I wanted to put my thoughts out there since I like the champ, but not the rework, and would feel sad to not like them anymore after it hits live. If the majority prefers the version they're planning on releasing though, I understand and won't push for a change and complain. But if people out there think that she could use some adjustments, I encourage you to post your ideas and ask, since there is a chance that they could listen and compromise.
