How to assassin

Let me just say straight up, I SUCK with assassins. But I'm trying to improve, which is why I decided to post here. I need some advice. In every game, with every assassin that I play, I come across the same roadblock. Teamfights. I never seem to know what to do in them.

Lets take Khazix as an example, cause I'm using him a lot. I know my job as an assassin is to delete carries, so that's what I try to do. I try to leap onto them, but as soon as I do I get melted by everyone else. But if I don't do that, I'm stuck dealing with the front line, not contributing enough to the fight.

Is there a general strategy as to how assassins should approach teamfights? Am I entering the fight too early? Any later and I feel like the fight will be over before I even get in. Should I always approach from the back? Its hard to do since most team fights start out with basically a staredown between the two teams. Basically, how can I avoid getting melted while still contributing to the fight?

Playing a (fair) assassin is all about timing and positioning. You don't want to be engaging unless you manage to catch an enemy carry alone. Either wait until the tanky members of your team engage and then try to get to the enemy carries while their teammates are distracted, or circle around and try to find opportunities to pick off someone who stays into a bad position.

Remember that you are more useful cleaning up after a fight than dying before it starts.

As a Assassin/Mage player, playing Assassins in team fights relies on knowing when to go in and when not to, especially if you can plan an escape, Khazix has a jump reset on evolved E so that's pretty useful, you should go in when some of the enemy team's CC is down, infiltration is really important and can make assassinating so effective, Khazix can ult, run into the enemy team's ADC, Q W AA the ADC to death, and ult E out.
