I "filled" last 20 games in diamond ranked, here's my result

Kouhey··69 votes·5,703 views

1 mid, 1 adc, 2 top, 16 supports. Sometimes I accepted my game and went "Wait what did I queue up as?" - "Yeah right I think it's support/support"

Edit: To people who say "Fill means you get what's most needed, you get what you asked" Well you deserve your downvotes fam, let me just quickly remind you what "fill" was like before this new champion select

  • I go into a game, check which of 1st ~ 5th pick I got
  • Team calls their preference
  • Those who don't call shit or call "fill" are the ones filling roles according to pick order
  • As a fill player, I can do whatever I want, mid top jungle adc or support, if no one wants one of them and I am higher in pick order
  • But the new system forces you to pick something, either X/Y or "fill", which does mean fill in a team, aka support

Just to add something: When the new system was out, fill works nicely, each role saw some needs in us, but as time went on, >>>>>>>>>>>>>Fewer people put support as secondary because this stupid system doesn't understand what "secondary" means, hence all support comes from either primarily prefered or us goddamned fillers<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Edit 2: Again for those saying fill goes to support is what it is intended, please look here

Not many people are willing to deal with the 3/5 (60%) of ADC players who blame the supp, ping the supp when they accidentally take a cs, or get mad if the support gets the last hit for the kill. Not to mention how rare it is for them to get any appreciation. It's a thankless job so not many people want to play it. That's what happens.

Except if you bothered to even look me up, you'd see that I do well on support.

So before you assume, call people bad when they clearly know what they're doing, and prove yourself to be part of the toxicity around here, how about you do some research? Because you obviously don't know what your're talking about. So stop hiding the scars on your arms and chill out. Ok?

how can you even steal cs with those guys? 0.0 do you have auto attack turned on? because if so, its starts to become annoying at one point if you keep auto attacking creeps

Starcraft243ver6 votes

Steps to steal a CS :

  1. Miss a spell and hit a Creep with it instead of the desired target (does not work if primary target WAS the Creep)
  2. no 2)

Morgana Ult/Miss a Q/E Bard Collateral from passive/ You wanted to stun the guy behind the minion Nami Bubble/Ult Blitzcrank Missed Q/Ult or Ult passive Braum Missed Q/Ult

Kharjai2 votes

Fun thing to do with Braum's q is to make trickshots with relic shield and surprise your ADC. There is no logical reason to do it besides having fun 8D

My Waifu Vanilla2 votes

Blitzcrank ult passive should just not hit minion/jg monsters you are not in combat with. I love sitting in a bush and zapping minions for days. I also remember 1 time walking back bot lane not paying attention and zapping our junglers gromp for the ks. No one was mad and we kinda laughed, but it is such an unnecessary thing to have since it is already completely out of your control.

RippledW1 votes

As a Morgana main, I am not sure how one can kill a cs with an ult that only targets champions and her black shield (E). A missed Q or a badly placed W would do it though.

swordishforce2 votes

Most people farm minions in lane when their adc isn't there or get cs late game or even have targons which gives you both cs. I'm confused what you mean by stealing cs?

Kynami1 votes

This. If your ADC is dead or backed... why pass up the perfectly good chance to last hit some farm for additional gold? That isn't the same as freely auto attacking and thereby pushing the wave. But if its just going to go to waste otherwise? Take it, those 2+ minions you bag is another pink or some gold towards your next item.

Not to mention some of the mage supports late game will walk up to a pushed lane... drop 1-2 AoE effects to cash in most of the wave pushing up and then drop a ZZ or banner a minion and then head elsewhere. If they are headed to that lane anyways to apply or relieve side-lane pressure before setting up for another objective they may as well take advantage of it. XP and gold is XP and gold, your average support is perfectly happy to have more of it.

agreed! Being a jungler sometimes carries the same burden, if one of your lanes is struggling it seems so easy for people to say those sweet words "....well if our jungle knew how to gank..." or something along those lines lol.

Magnum Mack4 votes

I try and make my lane approachable to junglers. I know he won't come if we stay pushed so I will try and back off and reign in my adc. I will sweep wards away and say in chat that bushes aren't warded. I'll get in position when they finally ping. It's like attracting hummingbirds to your feeders. If you won't put in the effort to make it tasty, then you won't get any nibbles.

And people always complain about ganks with no kills. Shit, we just got an empty lane where they either backed or are sticking around lower health. I'm fine with that. Being up 30 CS and even on kills is pretty solid in my book.

I main support and I see it all. When it's an adc I know personally, they know that if I play Blitz that they should be like Pavlov's dogs when they hear my Q launch because I very rarely fire off without knowing it'll hit because of CD timings. They knew that hitting a morg Q doesn't mean go in because I use it to peel almost as much as engage. These are things that can be misconstrued if they don't know your personal style. Often, ADC's are so thirsty for it that they jump on the chance because they think they have to. When I ran adc, I never went in unless I was sure (unless it was Leona because a good E is mostly just all in time) because I didn't trust the supports to make good calls. There were some safe supports I knew I could just jive with. Nami, Soraka and Janna make it easy to ADC with when I don't know them. Blitz's scare me because it's easy to counter-engage on failed hooks. Leona's are easy to understand their intentions, but that doesn't always mean it's a good idea.

It comes down to communication. ADC's and Supports will never trust each other because they actually require you clearly communicate your intentions between one another and build a bond of trust on the basis of a few minutes, what champ you selected and how the first engagement goes. It's hard to really trust a random player, especially as a bad adc because you KNOW you suck and you worry that if you're support sucks as bad as you do then it's all just gone to hell.

Remember, anger is easier than tranquility for humans. We STRIVE for peace, but live in chaos.

These are things that can be misconstrued if they don't know your personal style.

If there is ONE lesson that bot laners need to know, it is THIS one. It really sucks to have one game with a hyper aggressive support that rages when you don't follow his all-in attempts, and then follow that up with a cautious support, who may even be playing THE SAME CHAMPION but then gives you grief about fighting when they were trying to give you an escape. It's really aggravating when you lane with someone who's personal style clashes with your own, and especially so when you don't know that until midway through the game.

Magnum Mack1 votes

I try to be flexible. If the adc wants to go in, I react to it in kind and get a feel for their groove rather than acting and hoping they react to mine. And if I adc, I work off the support. Trying to force the tempo with my teammate is just one more variable I don't want. Working with their personal tempo takes some extra concerns off my plate and let's me just focus on the current events.

BestTristMyHaus1 votes

I do the same, it's just maddening watching it go back and forth from one extreme to the other and then see them rage because you didn't pick up which extreme they were quickly enough.

Celeste Benal2 votes

I don't complain if my support screws up and accidentallies a few minions or steals a kill, so long as they aren't obviously stealing. But when they clear waves and push lanes, forcing me to over-extend even after I have asked them multiple times to stop, then I get mad.

As an ex Support main i can say ADC can be very toxic and mean yes but as a new ADC main (Kappa) im not a very toxic player but sometimes there is that one Support who actually trolls or just isn't good but if i try to help them or tell them what they are doing wrong im the toxic ADC who is doing something wrong . Supports get so much trash in Season 2 and 3 and we have come to their aid and i think we should but that doesnt exluded them form being trash

It's not just the ADC main, it's the entire distribution of a team expecting that support becomes a sub-position role where they are lowest form of life and must do what its says or else it gets the hose-report. A non-person in the eyes of the toxic expectations.

We even see that in higher play that the role of support -isn't- babysitting. Its disrupting the enemy team. We have nearly any champion category in every lane possible as far as expectations go, but support.

The only way to deal with this is to consciously act that the meta is the expectation of the ADC being separated from support unless it is an organized choice between the two players.

WE DO NOT NEED YOUR PERMISSION ADC, YOU NEED PERMISSION FROM US FOR BABYSITTING.

You are saying the 2014 support wining I'm just frustrated by this buttfucking system putting me on support on every possible game to the point the word "fill" is as much a joke as riot's balance team

Flawless Fetus21 votes

Far from it. Fill literally means fill. It doesn't say 20% for each role. It doesn't say random. It says fill. You're going to get the role that your team needs. Guess what role is least played. Good guess - it's support. So when you select fill, which means fill and does not mean random, you are going to fill. The vast majority of the time it is going to be support. Because currently that's what is needed. When the next support champ gets released, you'll have a day or two you can select fill and not support. Until then, if you don't want to fill... don't pick fill. It's not very complicated.

Kharjai2 votes

I think what he's trying to say is that there shouldn't even be a "fill" option if it always gives you support.

Leetri6 votes

It doesn't though. The OP clearly got a couple other roles, and I've gotten jungle as many times as I've gotten support. Fill just gives you whatever role is needed for the shortest queue time.

Kharjai3 votes

Which is clearly, most often, support. The numbers don't lie.

Which is clearly, most often, support. The numbers don't lie.

"Most often" isn't "always" though.

Saying "fill" in chat most often gave you support last season, too. But not always.

I think one big difference is that when you say fill before the lobby, now the system is trying to put you on a team that needs something they don't already have. And what is that? You get one guess. A fill player will rarely show up on the same team with an actual support main (the situation that led to fills not supporting before) because the support main already got placed with 4 other people who have been waiting 10 minutes.

The other big difference is that there are no teams where nobody wants to support or fill and the last pick just gets forced into it or the team has to go off meta (probably resulting in infighting and toxicity). Fill mains don't notice this as much because they were never on this kind of team anyway -- they allowed their team to avoid this problem just by being there.

Kharjai1 votes

"there are no teams where nobody wants to support or fill"

Untrue. Some select fill as their secondary, simply because you MUST have a secondary. I've been in games where the enemy team has a "support" (i.e. Teemo) but doesn't have a Support.

As for the first part of your post, you are literally explaining what "most often" means. I select my words very carefully, but I appreciate you reiterating what was already said.

This is mainly a problem in low ELO, which is why it needs to be addressed; the majority of the player base is Bronze V - Gold I.

TotalJerk3 votes

This. It's not the system's fault that there's a support shortage.

Mickey Donnerudo12 votes

Actually it is. The system failed to meet player expectations when it allowed itself to give players their secondary role way more often than their primary role (mid/support net you about 20%/80% play rate easily even on day one). Every support secondary main has since switched to purely the other four roles because of this failure to meet expectations. The support player pool is shrinking and it's all the system's fault.

How did the system fail to meet expectations you ask? It is actually really, really simple. "Primary" sounds like a main role, and "Secondary" role sounds like a second choice. People don't like it when the match maker gives them their second choice more often than their first choice. If it had simply been "Pick two roles" or something to that effect, no one would have complained.

Before Dynamic Queue, I used to be able to say "fill" in pre-game chat and I would get a much more even distribution of roles. I'm not going to lie and say it was perfectly split, but it was much better balanced than Dynamic Queue's match making, even on day one. Now, with all of the support secondaries gone (including me), it's even worse.

If Riot has any interest in handling this problem, there have been so many different reasonable solutions posted on this forum. This community cares about the game. A little too much. But Riot would be true fools to leave their dedicated playerbase to be howling dogs until they're starved and dead.

i looged in just to upvote this comment cause i think this is exactly the case, at least for me

i once liked to play sup as a secondary choice but since you get sup 90 %(or even more often) of all your games, when you pick fill or sup as secondary, it starts to suck, espacially cause of the reason you mentioned

Whenever I pick fill, it assigns me to feeder. Every team needs one I guess so I do my best to play that role.

Rozair3 votes

Hey at leadt you got other results. I'm 100% support when I fill

Athenes Lulu3 votes

Primary/secondary? More like Role A and Role B, in no particular preference.

Anyone would think that Q'ing up as support primary would get them support 99% of the time. Nah, you wish that happens. Instead, they just shove people into wherever's empty first.

So yeah, it comes to the conclusion that there's no "preference", but only A and B in no order.

So I'm hearing a lot of people complain about fill and how it pretty much means support. I agree totally. But, if you didn't want support, 1. Why put fill? 2. Why complain when you did put fill? We all understand fill is just another name for support, so stop complaining about getting it when you purposefully put fill.

but seriously supports are awesome, just try to 1v2 without that braum who is 1/3/37Braum

and i dont care if you accidentally take a minion... just don't auto them because it really can screw up an entire wave, unless you have targon's :) if thats the case then auto away my friend, you deserve that cannon minion, afterall, its probably going towards an item meant to help me.

I go supports like Brand and get flamed before game even starts and told to just do my job as a adc ward hoe support and not to take any cs or kills and all that stuff. Now of course if i go brand I'm going to get hated on for killing people with my natural ignite even if I'm the one who did all the damage. The ADC would rather someone get away than me flashing in to deal 1 AA and finish them off before they get away. Then late game rolls around and they are 0/12/5 and says its the supports fault for taking all the kills. The stupidity and BS of some of these ADCs you have to deal with..Me picking Soraka doesn't mean you dont have to dodge skills shots... Me Picking Zilean doesn't mean I'm only supposed to ult you in team fights...

I became a support main when Team Builder was released, basically by giving up on playing mid ever again unless things worked out by sheer happenstance. That's also where I learned to jungle.

Now... I enjoy being the team whipping boy/maid. It's like when your mom slaps you in the face for eating too much pudding or your step-dad beats you with a belt for not picking up your room... except in this case it is not peeling/standing up for your ADC/brother or not looking for landmines in the yard

Wait... It honestly sounds like being a support is like being.... A RED HEADED STEP-CHILD

The funny thing is according to the boards you should get mid the most while filling but it is constantly support which actually means this poll ended up reflecting the nature of who posts a lot instead of reflecting queue times and rates of roles played.

I have very different results than you.

In diamond ranked, I usually queue up as Support/Top or Support/Jungle

And on a 10 game basis, I would get Support 2 or 3 times.
