Maokai Splitpush
So I just got a maokai 
in ranked, our entire team comp was basically built around group fighting, 
...enemy team had champs that fell off pretty hard.
But our maokai was interested in splitpushing, very much so that he muted and ignored us for asking to group fight and we ended up constantly losing 4v5s while defending towers because we had nothing to stop the enemy top laner`s 
aoe dmg....
Im pretty sure  had confidence in splitpushing but what was it? I dont play the champ much. Does anyone else know more about this stratedgy? Im not sure about his wave clear or his tower damage, just using his saplings as wards, does his ult reduce incoming damage to minions?

...so they were easily able to use their out of combat mobility to stop him from splitpushing. I`m still not sure why it was a valid stratedgy for us to let him split push I mean we cant not let him?? I dont think riot lets teams vote majority of what they want to do
So is it a good or bad stratedgy for maokai? Where did it start? Do alot of people do this as maokai? Cause I doubt its someone who is just greedy and wants gold. It must be something specific about that champ.
