What's the point of playing mid anymore?

Mid use to be my favorite but now, so many of my matches as mid puts me against a Zed, Talon, Kat, or Yas. All of which don't seem to have any counterplay and always end up winning as they all do insane damage no matter how skilled the player is with them.

I have tried the champs that are supposed to counter them and just end up destroyed anyway.

What is the point in trying to play mid with champions like these? They aren't even fun to play with how strong they are.

Play Morde, Swain or Vlad. They wreck all of them.

You're mistaking strong with burst. 3/4 of these are an assassin. It's a 1v1, you're designed to lose. Don't give them kills, call mia on roams, and farm. You outscale them in team fights later on. If you feed them, you lose. It's not impossible to farm and not feed. High elo does it all the time.

Vladimir and Annie can be played into all of these match ups and do well.

Zed - poke him hard with autos before he gets to level 3 (he SUCKS until then). Once at level 3, stand behind minions to avoid Q (if Q goes through minions to hit you the damage SUCKS its beyond pathetic). Don't stand in W range unless you either have your abilities all up (so that if takes shadow to auto you you can VICIOUSLY trade back while side-stepping his Shurikens) or you have a wall of minions (so he can't take W without getting bombarded by minions). Whenever he does WEQ dodge (just one) of his 2 Shurikens and it does NO DAMAGE its beyond pathetic (generally walk towards your minions because at least 1 of his Shurikens has to cross minions usually and it will get the damage cut). Zed is a complete paper tiger unless he's played a Smurfer Zed God. If he Ults, MOVE AROUND LIKE A NUTTER while trading back (you know exactly where he will appear because of the X so you can lob a skill shot at him); meanwhile he has a high probability of missing his over-nerfed Qs.

Also, when laning against Zed, imagine that there's a giant TIMER on the enemy team. They've shot themselves by picking this flashy champ more than half the time if you just keep your cool. You don't have to win lane, he has to win lane. You can win simply by not dying to him. He is HORRIBLE to team fight with and requires consistent rotations of PERFECT PLAY in the late game to win with. As soon as you get your item 3157 (which is cheaper than a morello), he's nearly already become the most useless champion on their team. For the rest of the game in team fights you press a few buttons and AOE nuke the enemy team while bringing tons of utility... meanwhile he has to keep making PERFECT PLAYS to maybe kill 1 guy and get out ("Oh I am so scared.").

Talon - Don't be scared of him. He has ONE spell that really matters, the 3 daggers thingy. Just dodge that while trading back and you will be FINE. He's got basically nothing else. If he hits 6 just make sure you can land all your spells on him in a COUNTER TRADE (if he Ults into try and attack you, you can retaliate and HIT all of your spells back while sidestepping the daggers).

Katarina - I don't know what to say other than just imagine that the Daggers on the floor are like Zed shadows. Poke her around this (they nerfed her laning) and don't stand near the daggers if you don't want her to blink there. Stand behind minions and use the wall of minions as a defensive advantage... similar tactics against Zed?

Viktor can consistently do fairly well against all of them except Zed in low silver. I've practiced it (you just have to not miss your laser and only trade/poke to proc TLD, but they can't approach you without getting hard punished).

...

And yes some of the AD champs may rush item 3155; if they do, its still more than in your power to force a draw in the lane.

And a draw in lane is basically a won lane if you are a mage and they are an assassin and they don't roam. (just because of how unreliable and painful it is to team fight as an assassin later)

you probably have no strategy whatsoever lol

But part of the point is that from mid you can roam to anywhere and its easy for the jungler to reach you

Don't forget Fizz. I'll agree that it's definitely not an automatic loss when playing against these champions, but it's definitely not fun to play against them. When you have to spend your entire laning phase trying to bait out a really strong ability just to kill your opponent (Fizz E, Yasuo W), it just gets tedious. Not only that but you need to change your build path just for them as well, making you effectively useless against others on the team, whereas their build paths remain pretty much unchanged. What pisses me off the most personally is the fact that I need to put 100% focus into tracking their insane mobility (when, it's up every 5-15 seconds), so that they don't creep up behind me and 100-0 me, whereas other laners I can just chill, trade normally, and farm.
