What "Oneshot" means

Oneshot implies a single ability, or a combination of abilities all hitting at the same time, finishing the job in.. one shot. No drawn-out fights, no slow ticks down, it's just BOOM dead. Also known as an instakill.

Boards, you're misusing this term. I just saw a thread complaining about Garen being able to "oneshot tanks". ?? There is nothing in Garen's kit that allows him to single-handedly kill a tank in "one shot", unless they're the villain and already below the HP threshold that enables his ult to execute. And for a tank, that's a LOT of missing HP, and so even then, isn't a oneshot.

Please stop using buzzwords incorrectly. It really exhausts the word.

By "Oneshot" people really mean "Onerotation" but it doesn't roll off the tongue as well

Garen can't "onerotation" a tank either. His E just doesn't have the scalings, even at level 18 vs a villain, a tank won't die from it. A squishy champion, caught alone (thus taking extra damage), with 3 damage items on Garen (Cleaver, sterak, and my personal favorite is stormrazor) then yes, Garen can kill them in one rotation of Q>E>Q>Ult. But again.. that's not a oneshot.

"Boards, you're misusing this term." "I just saw a thread where literally one guy exaggerated to complain about champion X he probably lost to 5 minutes before hand."

A single example, true. Doesn't mean it's not an overused, and misused, buzzword.

I'd actually thin the term even further - I dislike using the term One-Shot for multiple abilities hitting at the same time. That's one rotation, or just combo, or just burst, or whatever else. One-Shot is literal ONE SHOT. Like old Nidalee.
