Your Most Problematic Balance Situation

DevilishMetal··2 votes·1,178 views

So this is an experiment I'm doing to see if I can root out the community's opinion on the most problematic things in-game. All you need to do is tell me below that X needs a nerf/buff. Don't necessarily have to say how to fix it, just what champ/item needs a buff/nerf. I want to get down to the top 3 things.

EDIT: I'm making another post and putting up a poll for what to focus on. Go check my profile!

Kassadin, Lucian, and Elise need buffs

Agreed

Taric, Poppy, and Yorick need full blown reworks

I can agree with Yorick, can't agree with Taric or Poppy.

Taric was simply out of meta for a while, he's actually rather strong now and there's nothing wrong with his skillset. Plenty of counterplay and plenty of play potential for the player.

Poppy is a great champ in both skillset and balance, 0 wrong with her.

Diana, AP Ezreal, and Sated Devourer need nerfs

Diana is balanced, current AP Ez is balanced, I can agree that Devourer needs a bit of tweaking.

Poppy's ult is my problem, once she gets Bork and Triforce she can solo an adc unopposed in a 6/7/8 second window with very little counter play. She has no reason to build tanky when she can take out the enemy carry or even carries in an 8 second time window with the natural steroids that she has. I don't agree with most people that her laning phase is weak, she gets free armor, attack damage, a % max health nuke (that's also an auto reset) as well as a passive that counters almost any dps that isn't a weaker DoT (this is why I counterpick her with bruiser fizz). Flask helps her immensely, and it isn't a liability anymore because most top laners take it, so she isn't behind in combat stats. She needs more healthy gameplay patterns, because she isn't easy to kite due to w/triforce/boots movespeed and impossible to peel via r while dealing crazy dps.

As far as Taric goes, he is another hidden power stat aura champion that Riot is trying to move away from. I think his early lane phase throws his adc under the bus compared to most other supports, which is only offset by his armor aura that comes into strength mid-late game. His concept can be much better utilized and I'd like to see a rework so he feels impactful rather than being invisibly impactful.

Current AP Ez is strong because he can be behind and still output more damage than the enemy mid, and when he's ahead he's basically a ranged assassin with the damage he can put out. Runeglaive solved the problem of early game AP Ez entirely and now his strong ratios and bases are dominating most of the mid lane pool. When an AP Ez whos 1-4 can ult and take out more than half of almost any mid champions' hp, I'd like to see changes

The Diana nerf I want to see is an increase in the Q cd. Level 6 diana has to hit one q to 100-0 someone or blow their summs, I'd like to see more windows of opportunity for the champs playing against her.

I dunno, I disagree with the idea that an ability needs to have counter play. As long as there are measurable weaknesses to a champion then it can be balanced. The weaknesses for Poppy include her mana usage (no, Flask doesn't fix that), her longish cooldowns and her mixed damage (not easy to itemize in terms of penetration). If she's OP (I don't think she is) she can be easily adjusted by weakening her damage and increasing mana costs further.

As for Taric, well, I guess I can agree with that argument. Personally I don't mind auras, but I can see why people would want them removed.

I think AP Ez is strong, but the Runeglaive fix has pushed him out of the realms of "OP." I think it's great that Runeglaive has solved his early game struggles. Plenty of AP champs can be effective when behind - Brand, Lux and Cho'gath come to mind. AP Ez isn't unique in this.

Diana is only overpowered in very specific matchups - namely, matchups that have insufficient CC and sustained DPS. Plenty of champions do just fine against her. Champs don't have to be average/above average in all matchups - some of them are great in some matchups and horrible in others. Diana is one of these.

It's not Poppy's job to stack pen, she kills two squishies in 8 seconds, and her mixed damage is an ASSET because that means squishies can't build against both types save for Guardian Angel (and Zz'Rot lol but nobody uses that ), which doesn't really help that much against her damage. And besides, if they get a 2800 gold defense item mid game, they are super weak anyway, Poppy did her job. She is unable to be damaged or cc'd for 8 FULL SECONDS by more than one champion, and let's be real adc's aren't the most stacked champs in terms of cc, and you'll be hard pressed for a mage with a lockdown of 4 seconds let alone 7 or 8. Mana is not a poppy weakness- don't spam charge, buy flask, rush sheen, you won't have mana problems. Long cooldowns? They aren't really long tbh for a max hp dmg ability that's super spammable in terms of mana and cooldown (8 down to 4 sec), and who says mobility and hard cc on the same ability should have a short cd (12 down to 8 sec)? No basic CD on her is more than 12 seconds with 0% cdr, and for an ult that has the potential game impact of a Karthus ult (almost 100-0 multiple carries at once at low risk) to have a 140-120-100 sec cd is ludicrous.

an ASSET

It's an asset against squishies (i.e. what she's designed to kill) but not against bruisers/tanks. Poppy really struggles to take them down unless she's fed.

She is unable to be damaged or cc'd for 8 FULL SECONDS by more than one champion

Yep but unless she can push you into a wall she can't do much damage in that time.

Mana is not a poppy weakness- don't spam charge, buy flask, rush sheen

Common misconception, flask's mana regen is basically negligible (3 extra Qs), as is Sheen's. Also if you don't use charge you will get out traded. More importantly, Poppy's base mana and mana regen is extremely low, she will continue to run out of mana after using 3 or so full combos in the late game.

super spammable in terms of mana

She only has enough base mana to use it 5-6 times. 9 times if she has Flask, although realistically speaking she should save mana so she can use charge as an escape.

Sorry, if you're just looking at mana costs without looking at her resources and making these badly theorycrafted assumptions I really can't bother continuing this argument. I've seen Poppy players in high Elo and these arguments I'm making are based off of experience. Poppy is a difficult champion to win with, if she gets fed she's terrifying but against competent players it's hard to get to that point.

#1 she doesn't need to kill the tanks she needs to kill the squishies. With them dead, teamfights are simple #2 Between boots, tri, w, bork active and and phage passive her movespeed more than solves that issue. Its not far out of her budget to get a qss if she actually need it either #3 It's not a "common misconception" 3 q's is alot of max hp and flask is alot of hp, while poppy's hp is already efficient due to free armor and her passive. Her auto for auto trades even without q's are usually wins. #4 5 times is considerable for its power, and yet mana regen exists, flask exists, and potions exist, making it easily 10 off the base mana pool you are citing. Besides, mana pool grows in size at each level, you won't be shooting off 5 q's at lvl 1 to go oom. Early sapphire crystal is almost 4 more q's at 400 gold, basically is with her base mana regen #5 if you can't make an arguement without attacking someone else without base you shouldn't be making that arguement. Who are you to tell me I've never played as poppy or against a good poppy player?

Galio needs more presence in game even without their team being 3/5 ap Veigar needs to find his place Zilean needs some sort of weird buff -

No nerfs. Buff slitghly underappreciated champions (zac?)

I don't wanna start a flame war, but although it is said in DotA heroes are unbalanced and have absurd abilities, most champions there see a lot of play nonetheless, meanwhile in LoL some are forgotten to oblivion.

I'd rather see more Riven-like champions, where they are good in what they do, then not see the champion at all. =P (hi vel'koz)

Just xerath, nerf him, he's completely obnoxious

Not for any specific champions in general but.

Resource management is the number one balance flaw in this game, imo. How often have champions been OP because they don't give a shit about resources?

Namely: Yasuo, Rengar, Riven, Katarina

All can spam skills because all they worry about are CD's. Yasuo and Rengar are encouraged to spam skills because Yasuo will get his tornadoes flying and dashing all over the place, and Rengar will get his Ferocity up so he can murder you even faster.

Riven also has her Q combo and a free dash + shield whenever it's up, and Katarina's passive is based around not having any CD's if you simply wait in the back and jump into the fight at the right time.

Honorable mentions to Rumble and Vlad; the former wants to spam as well for Danger Zone bonus, and Vlad has the most OP non-ult heal in the game.
