Either i've been doing something horribly wrong, or Malzahar's laning power is too high

as far as I've seen, you HAVE to have your jungle camp your lane if you want to not get creamed by him unless you are one of a select few champs. his push power is enormous, his abilities deal a ton of damage, he has a built in mana restore, he has an extremely powerful silence, and his ult is literally impossible to do anything about on your own unless you are olaf or you want to waste a slot on qss. personally, I don't think I would have much of a problem with him if they made another item that built out of qss that is viably built on an ap champ. i'll build straight mr and hp items and he can still nuke the crap out of me easily. so please, someone tell me wtf im supposed to do against a malzahar aside from pray for my jungler to come. in the meantime, riot, we REALLY need at least a tank item that builds out of qss.

usually they counter pick me when I'm playing swain. not only have I yet to not lose lane to one, but I have yet to actually win a game against one (at least as far as I recall).

I play malz a lot, and there is a trick to laning against him; unless you get close to him, he has no way to get the killing damage on you without exposing himself.

Yeah, he is a strong laner, and a good farmer, but he is jungle bait hardcore. Also, if you have a way to farm from a distance, do so, and when he tries to position himself to engage on you, wreck him. This works well with skillshot base characters.

Anything that outranges him whips him that I've seen.

He's like Lissandra in being one of those mages that are excellent against assassins which are the common mid these days.

Malzahar has more than twice the AP ratios than many other AP mid laners.

His level 1 to 5 is manageable; however, at level 6 he can easily 100-0 most champions with ultimate. Malzahar is one of these older champions whom you have to have counter play against if you want to even step our of turret range.

Like playing against Annie or Zed, both with easy to land, high burst damage, it is highly recommended to buy a QSS. (Or Zhonyas against Zed.) If you don't have a QSS, a Banshee Veil, or any type of CC removal by the time Malzahar starts racking up AP items, your life is pretty much forfeit.

He does have the weakness of being short ranged, but he ultimately still have more range than melee champions, and can still flash to snag champions such as Ziggs or Xerath. As well, he stuns himself during his combo. During that time, your team can try to kill him before he kills you.
