Split Pushing

Is it even possible to do this anymore? I play alot of Fiora top lately, along with some Riven/Irelia. and I generally like to split with Fiora. Im curious because the meta doesnt seem like its completely Anti split push.

I just got ripped a new one by my friend because he hates split pushing and when he duos with me he gets upset that im splitting while a fight is going on. Now Im not that great, i have ok mechanics and game knowledge. But when the enemy team is fed, or even a little ahead, I have a hard time grouping because (im not saying i never lose lane btw, I do) Im not comfortable with fioras gameplay in a teamfight,. Ulting someone who just runs away waiting for it to drop or even that not happening yet I get turned on is so frustrating, and so I prefer to split.

He knows thats how I play, so Im defensive because I dont understand why hes forcing teamfights, or people are getting caught out then Im being blamed.#endrant

Regardless of that, he gave me the TSM vs EVER game as proof that splitting sucks and I need to completely change my playstyle. I watched the game and felt that it wasnt splitting that screwed them, but rather: Grouping on towers as 5 man vs a team comp more suited to teamfighting, forcing fights under said towers, trying to take objectives when low on resources after repeatedly pushing away the enemy team(baron specifically).

Split pushing is what got them the 10k gold lead in the first place, and if they had actually gone 1-3-1, with the FED ez in mid, they should have been fine, correct?

I even told my friend that were not pros, we dont have superior communication/team comps since its yolo Q. So splitting isnt bad for us.

So am I wrong is splitting so bad that I need to completely change my play style just to climb? I ended plat last season and he ended gold 5. So I know I am not atrocious, but I must be missing something :/ I apologize for the ranting/ overall unorganized jumble of a mess that is this post.

Id appreciate some feedback. Thanks everyone! :D

Split Pushing is actually very important. Remember that until 25 minutes in, only 2 things matter: Gold, and buffs/dragon bonuses.

Kills and deaths award gold. So does blowing up a tower.

If you lose a teamfight and 2 people die, but you smash a tower at the same time, your team catches up some in gold. Did you farm a whole bunch? That's more gold your team got.

After 25 minutes, death timers start to matter too. This is when you have to think carefully about split pushing to take objectives. Safety is a major concern.

But earlier in the game, a smashed turret is money in the bank. You may find this advantage is much more tangible if you have a champion who is a strong turret defender, and can keep the enemy from claiming your turrets when they kill a couple people. Heimerdinger, Anivia, Zyra... there are options.

Split pushing is pretty powerful in solo queue

probably the best strategy for climbing

Your friend is a dumb shitter. Professional players splitpush too, and it's a very strong tactic with teleport. Split and tp in for a fight if you need to. Push an objective while still being there for your team. Easy peasy.
