Boots of Mobility: Don't Disable Them When Attacking a Ward

Deep Terror Nami··173 votes·6,823 views

I'm basically just asking the community if they think this would be nice to have. It sucks clearing wards as a Support and you lose all of your mobility for it.

Attacking puts you into combat (which disables the move speed bonus), but I'm sure it could be coded in to avoid that.

Too much map control if supports can roam at high speeds while clearing wards.

Deep Terror Nami32 votes

It punishes you for doing your job...

Cindikle4 votes

Vision control is not the supports job. It is a team effort. It should be a team effort to take control of it. Not a one man ward destroying army running around faster than anyone can stop them.

Clearing wards is meant to have a risk involved.

Deep Terror Nami3 votes

Since when does having Mobi speed mean there's no risk? Any damage stops them, and most supports have a very slow attack speed which means literally every other person kills them faster, and they usually don't have Mobis either so they have a better chance of escaping too.

Cindikle2 votes

Having 60 more MS than everyone else makes clearing wards a lot safer unless you stand still while doing it.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Your point is that being safer is unfair yes?

So by that logic the fact that losing your entire bonus and being worse off than everyone else is fair?

Would you consider a compromise? Such as the bonus reduces to +45 to be equal to the other boots.

My point isn't to make Mobi's give an unfair advantage, but to get rid of their crippling disadvantage in only a single scenario (that being when you hit a ward and aren't in combat in any other way).

FairyTail Azuma1 votes

No it makes you vulnerable while clearing out enemy wards while removing your ms bonus making you easily caught out in enemy territory if you have poor vision control.

Too much map control if supports can roam at high speeds while clearing wards.

Supports are already gated in their capacity to clear wards by the CD on sweeper.

MacDthree3 votes

too bad move speed doesn't effect sweeper cooldown huh.

Sammystorm1 votes

you are acting like only one person can have it. It gives you a substantial movement speed buff at all points of the game post mobi's

MacDthree1 votes

what are you even trying to say.

Sammystorm1 votes

More then one person can buy sweepers. Pinks also exist. i don't think it is necessary to buff mobi's.

MacDthree1 votes

I rarely ever see a team that has more than 2 (and even that is rare) sweepers on it. It's impractical to have more than one once you've upgraded. Especially since other team members can upgrade it to the pink, etc.

I get what you're trying to say. The whole "if you get caught taking down a ward that's your own damn fault" theory.
But I also don't understand the theory behind being punished for destroying them.
To me, it's like using Ruined King to do more damage to a tank in a fight- but it reducing your attack speed as well. Defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Do keep in mind - that you arguing with me about not buffing it, won't make them buff or not buff it. I am not on the riot team, nor do I control how items are changed. I can have my opinion, and you can have yours.

Sammystorm2 votes

your not being punished for destroying them. It is your own fault for buying mobi's you can buy a different boot. On top of that nothing about destroying a ward is bad unless you do it at a inopportune time. It denies vision period. I fail to see how clearing a ward is punishing you. I can see mobi's punishing you but that is your choice to buy them. You could just as easily buy swiftness or merc treads. Mobi's are a high risk high reward boot. Adding consistency just starts making them better then everything else.

MacDthree2 votes

you are missing the point, and I'm done arguing with a damn wall. get on with yourself.

Sammystorm1 votes

I answered your post. You won't even say what point I am missing. Instead you just insult me. Sounds like you just have a shitty point.

MacDthree1 votes
  1. I made the point that I think it's silly to be slowed for taking down a ward.
  2. I then made the point that we can have different opinions <- this is the part you missed.

I, MacDthree, am not Riot. I can't change it. So you arguing with me won't make them NOT change the damn boots.

Sammystorm1 votes

I made the point that I think it is silly to not be slowed down for taking down a ward. I fully recognized that we can have different opinions yet you made a post responding to my post. So I responded. In fact you were just rude to me for no reason just because you wanted to end the conversation with out actually telling anyone you wanted to end it. You don't want to discuss something then don't make a post responding to me about the discussion we were having.

OJ1915 votes

No. If you get caught with your pants down clearing a ward you shouldn't be able to zoom off with mobis.

PS: remove lifestealing from wards rito pls

Aeolian Melodies2 votes

If you "get caught with your pants down", technically you should've been tagged by the enemy anyway.

not if you yourself have proper ward coverage. You can usually at least start running before being struck, if that is your choice, and if hitting wards didn't remove mobi buff well... escaping would be 1000x easier

Aeolian Melodies1 votes

But if I have proper ward coverage to make sure I'm safe while clearing enemy wards, then I'm not getting caught with my pants down. You're not making sense.

Indorfin5 votes

Maybe boots of mobility should be disabled for less time when attacking wards, so it's still hard to dodge hooks and snares when you're clearing it, but you don't have to fall so far behind your team's rotation to do it.

1Rival5 votes

Most of the people voting "yes", do not understand the mechanics behind vision/map control and ward defense.

With every risk needs to be reward: You are sacrificing your speed boost from mobis to clear a ward, which effectively knocks out a large portion of vision given to your enemies. Having so much mobility while clearing wards, prevents your enemies from effectively defending their wards.

macromite2 votes

I see it from the junglers perspective, where you lose raptor buff to the ward, but if you want to gank effectively, you cant stop for it because you'll lose the speed buff.

Cindikle1 votes

What if instead of making them visible. It just disables the first ward you run into (giving the same ripple effect to show you're near the disabled ward).

Opens up ganks without making the counter-vision power too strong.

The ward will be disabled for 15s. Enough time that if staying could mean death. Even if you walk away and return you still wont know. This also gives the jungle enough time to try and find the ward and clear it while they gain no vision from it.

A jungler could even take this to the next level if they know the wards timer. They could show up 30s before it's going to fade. The target could think it faded. Then head to re-ward, only to find a death timer.

Pinkie1 votes

.>Place ward on raptors .>Jungler can't gain raptor buff for 3 minutes

Your suggested change forces the jungler to get item 3341 if he wants to make use of the raptor buff. When he tries to gank, the enemy will still be alerted by the sudden loss of vision.

Cindikle1 votes

That's no different than how it is now. Difference is that this gives them the ability to play around the wards. It's more like a cloak to help ganking.

As the guy I replied too said. You're often forced to chose between giving up on the gank and taking the 30g from the ward or try the gank anyway. It's also very iffy as a buff.

  • Low MMR - Players probably didn't ward anyway.
  • Medium MMR - Probably when it's most effective. Wards are more often enough though their attention to the map isn't as strong in case it gets cleared.
  • High MMR - Players know how to work around the jungler and the jungler mainly uses it to know if there is a ward so the gank is doable more than making the gank possible.

I just don't think it works that great. Lower players don't really effect it much. Middle players use it the best because they're not all that great yet. Higher up players mostly use it as a "can I gank" check than making the gank possible.

With all of this in mind. We could give a really good buff to Poachers Knife, additional smite effects if it kills the target(or if it just dies by your team). Because it needs something.

Blue Buff - 100% mana regen for 2 minutes, 3 minutes if jungle item is enchanted. Red Buff - 100% health regen for 2 minutes, 3 minutes if jungle item is enchanted. Golem - 25% tenacity for 1 minute, 2 minutes if jungle item enchanted. Razerbeaks - Cloaking a ward also grants true sight to nearby objects and champions. Wolves - Next 3 basic attacks on monsters will critically strike. 30s duration Gromp - Reflected damage vs monsters restores a % of the damage dealt as mana. Nothing too major though. Crab - 60% MS boost for 3s, boost falls off over it's duration. Dragon - Triples the bonus gold(25->75). Baron - Restores 15% of your missing health over 10 seconds.

Tulare1 votes

As a "can I gank?" check, it's pretty darned useful! If there does happen to be a ward there, clearing it isn't a bad option. You distract the enemy laner, maybe their jungler too, get some gold. And then you can either turn around and go back to your jungle or camp to see if the laner assumes that you've just gone back to your own jungle.

idk, isnt that the point though... combat takes away your mobility... clearing wards by yourself is dangerous, its suppose to be.... and safer if you already have vision and are renewing that vision.... so rewards you for good habits like warding and counter warder, and sets you up for death if you (ur team i mean) has been slacking

also, warding during a team fight can be important... Akali Shaco .... not to mention it can ruin an attack move command for your favor, so attacking wards seems to be directly related to combat, which negates the boots for good reason ya?

Sona i understand the pain of lack of mobility, squishyness, and lack of sight, but its suppose to be there for a reason ya? to give the choice of what boots really are better...item 3274 boots of mobility or maybe u need swiftness instead item 3280 , or maybe go for something else for a diff reason.... item 3158

I play him a lot and he doesn't. The animation goes off but you'll see him Ki Striking the ward 3 times so it's actually still there.

Yeah like Sona. She Powerchords the ward 3 times in a row but still has it. It used to waste the charge, though.

You can lifesteal off them if you want.

1 HP, aka the damage that you deal to it.

I think it would be fine if champions like Leona, who rely on being able to close in to make the most of their engagement tools, wouldn't be a bit too speedy while they roam about clearing wards and attempting to catch people. Granted, I don't play much Summoner's Rift, so I may just be speaking from the experience of the one normal I played on Rift as Leona this season, lol. Maybe halve the bonus speed while you're actively attacking it, then restore it to full immediately if you successfully clear the ward/assist a teammate in doing so.

Cindikle1 votes

It'd be nice. But it gives the support that's ahead too much power. The fact that you lose the bonus speed gives a chance to defend the ward.

Don't know if you ever faced a Janna that had complete vision domination because you couldn't counter her movement while she took down every ward. And if you tried to chase her, you'd only find her team waiting for you. But I don't want every support being able to do that.

Well honestly it should put the boots on cool down. It makes sense for them to lose their speed when you start attacking things.
