Is it possible to be stuck in a division despite having greater than 50% win rate?

Hypothetically/theoretically (whichever is the correct one) speaking, could someone be forever stuck in a division despite having a win rate greater than 50%?

Numbers will tell you that you can't, but if all of your wins take place before your promos and then you keep losing your promos, then yes.

Let me tell you more about this. My mmr is shit. I play well. Dont die a lot. I assist a lot. I get kills alot. I lose a game. -20 lp. I win a game +15 lp. So to speak i have to win more than i lose. My winrate is 54% and its still increasing. Used to be 50/50. I am climbing but really really slowly. Its so hard to climb when league doesnt want you to. Ive played 240 games to climb up 1 whole division. People have only played 30 games and are already in diamond. The struggle is real.

One of the worst things about this ranking system. Maybe you sucked in january/febuary, but improved since then and are winning enough to climb, but since you played bad before and lost a lot your mmr is so bad that you won't climb cause you won't gain shit. You have to win a crap ton of games just to get a decent mmr again, and by that time you're over due for a losing streak and the cycle continues. If you're new to the game I'd recommend just climbing 2 accounts to level 30, and sacrifice one for loses till you get used to ranked, then go on ranked on the other one a few months later when you're better and you can probably avoid elo hell.

Very solid advice.

Also, dont play ranked when the state of the game screws you. I'm still waiting for rito to realize that increasing jungle camp spawn timers was a HUGE fucking mistake.

As long as you dodge promos you can have 100% win rate but not climb.

Yes.

I climbed to Plat 5 with a 63% win rate and was 20-25 games positive. I had a troll on my team to end my series 5 times in a row, but I always won the game right after I lost my series just to get put back in, maintaining a 50% win rate at my promos for 20 games and dropping my overall win rate to 57%. Had I kept losing my series but winning to immediately get back in, I would have remained 20-25 games positive to keep my win rate over 50%. This wouldn't have been a problem if the "free promo win" existed above gold, but it doesn't.

Fun fact, a troll also decided by 6th promo series, but for once it was on the enemy team. That's how I finally got to Plat 4. I still skipped Plat 3. I could have been 'gate-keeper'ed in Plat 5 for eternity despite being deserving of at least Plat 2.

No. As long as you are trying, Its simply not possible.

If you win more than you lose, your MMR will, on the whole, go up. There is no way around that. That means that, eventually, you will be winning more LP per win than you lose per loss, and you will climb. And if you maintain that winrate, you will eventually win one of your series.

Anybody who tells you that its possible to truly get stuck at a division below where you belong is ignorant of how the system actually works.
